I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Tips for Tuesday - Books: One Bad Mother & A Sociopath's Guide to a Successful Marriage; Film: Paul McCartney: Man on the Run

We may have been given complimentary copies and/or access for review purposes to any books, products, and/or any other visual or audio media mentioned below. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

Books: One Bad Mother & A Sociopath's Guide to a Successful Marriage

Today, we recommend One Bad Mother by EJ Dickson. This book provides a thorough examination of the archetypes that are generally believed to constitute bad mothers. Stage mothers, momfluencers, pyschomoms, and more are all included in the book.

Although you would expect the book to be really anti-mother, it is actually the opposite. In reality, this book is more about the difficulties of motherhood in general than condemning particular kinds of mothers. While motherhood is a job that should be valued as one of, if not the most important, in the world, in reality, mothers are often shown little respect and given little support. More than anything, this book is a clarion call to change the way we treat mothers and motherhood and give mothers the respect and support they need and deserve.  If you are a mother and don't feel seen or supported, or if you just want someone to commiserate with about how truly hard motherhood can be, you are going to want to read this book.

Today, we recommend A Sociopath's Guide to a Successful Marriage by MK Oliver. Lalla Rook is going to make sure she gets the life she deserves despite her unambitious husband, her difficult children, and her inadequate house. However, first she needs to take care of the body of the home intruder she just killed, who may be tied to a secret past that she is determined to keep hidden.

Reading this book is like gawking at a car accident. It feels so wrong, but you just can't stop yourself. Far from being a selfless, admirable heroine, Lalla Rook is a cruel, selfish, horrible human being who doesn't even really care about her own family. Yet, despite this, her exploits are splendidly fun to read about. Although she definitely takes things to the extreme, we could all use a little more of her confidence.

Film: Man on the Run

Today, we recommend Paul McCartney: Man on the Run. This film is a fascinating look at Paul McCartney's post-Beatles career. focusing largely on his work with Wings. The film does delve slightly into the Beatles, mostly regarding the circumstances of their breakup.

In addition to Paul's own view, the film also offers insights from his daughters, his late wife, Linda, former bandmates and many more. It even includes the words of John Lennon and his son, Sean, offering a unique perspective on the Beatles and the relationship between John and Paul.

The film's soundtrack is filled with McCartney's own music, mainly from his Wings period. "Silly Love Songs", "Live and Let Die", and "Band on the Run" are only a few of the gems that you'll hear snatches of throughout the movie. If you grew up in the 1970s, it's a real nostalgia trip.

If you are not a fan of Paul McCartney, this film is not likely to change your mind. However,  if you are a fan of his, a Wings fan and/or a Beatles fan, you're not going to want to miss it!
