I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday: The Gay Harlem Renaissance

We received complimentary tickets to the New York Historical for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What:  The Gay Harlem Renaissance

Where: New York  Historical
             170 Central Park W.
              New York, NY

Who: All ages

When: Through March 8, 2026

The current exhibit, The Gay Harlem Renaissance, at the New York Historical covers all aspects of Black LGBTQ life in the 1920s and 1930s. It explores what the social, religious, and political life, and more, were like during that time and examines the dual pressures of racism and homophobia that they faced.

The exhibit includes numerous pictures, paintings, documents, and other objects. It covers a large number of performers, artists, and writers, some of whom are quite well-known and others who might not be as familiar to many people. They include Ethel Waters, Gladys Bentley, Malvin Gray Johnson, Nella Larsen, Langston Hughes, and more.

Listen to the vibrant jazz soundtrack playing in the background as you peruse the exhibit, which includes songs by Jelly Roll Morton, Count Basie and his Orchestra, Duke Ellington, and more. Explore the hot spots of the time with the interactive club map. Learn some slang terms of the era. Plus, there's a whole lot to do, see, and learn about.

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
