I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Still More Theater Saturday - Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration

We received complimentary tickets to Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration

Where: Movie Theaters Nationwide, Courtesy of Fathom Entertainment

When: This event took place on December 13 and 14

On December 13, song and dance man, all-around extraordinary entertainer, and amazing human being, Dick Van Dyke celebrated his 100th birthday. In honor of this illustrious occasion, Fathom Entertainment released a special tribute to the beloved entertainer in movie theaters for two nights only. Van Dyke, who has been a professional performer for almost 80 years, has originated some of the most indelible roles of all time in some of the most deeply treasured films, including Bert in Mary Poppins and Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He also gave life to one of the all-time greatest TV characters, Rob Petrie, in The Dick Van Dyke Show.

The film centered around a celebration for the performer in his hometown. It briefly delved into his background, mostly regarding how he was shaped by the town where he grew up, as well as providing a brief glimpse into the family he grew up in, particularly concerning his father. Van Dyke has maintained a fierce loyalty and connection to his hometown throughout his life, and he is quite adored there.

The film didn't really cover his adult life except for his career. It provided a nostalgic look back at some of his most well-known roles, including those mentioned above.  Plus, it offered a brief glimpse into some of his lesser-known roles. In addition to copious amounts of clips from his performance, many of those who've known him best, including both his famous coworkers and ordinary people from his hometown, provided their insights. It was a joyous event and a truly heartfelt commemoration of an icon.
