I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday - The Collections New Conversations

We received complimentary tickets to the New York Historical for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: The Collections: New Conversations

Where: New York Historical
             170 Central Park W.
              New York, NY

When: Through August 17, 2025

The Collections: New Conversations exhibit at the New York Historical makes you look at art as a representation of society in a new way.  It consists of a mix of older pieces from the museum's collection and newer acquisitions. Much of it focuses on marginalized groups and how they have or have not been represented throughout history.

In addition to individual pieces of art within the exhibit, several pairs of two different works are placed together, like Johannes Oretel's American Revolutionary Pulling Down the Statue of King George III, alongside Beyte Saar's Extreme Times Call for Extreme Heroines, in which a Jim Crow mammy is fighting racism and sexism in the present day. The two pieces side by side represent how the American ideals on which this country was founded did not apply equally to everyone. The exhibit aims to make us think about art in America and how museums tell the story of history in a different way.

And that's our view. For more about The Collections New Conversations, go to  www.nyhistory.org/exhibitions/the-collection-new-conversations. For more about the New York Historical generally or to purchase tickets to visit the museum, go to www.nyhistory.org

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
