I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

1) Golden Girl Murder Mystery

Miami is nice but Atlantic City is better. Your favorite ladies from the ‘80s and early 90s are throwing a party, and you’re invited! Sophia, Blanch, Rose and Dorothy have worked long and hard to throw the perfect celebration, but will they still be celebrating when they discover that one of their party guests has murderous intentions? As Sophia attempts to lighten the mood with a song, someone’s attempting to lighten the mood with a BANG!

During this hour and a half performance, audience members will get to play detective as the Without A Cue Golden Girls mingle with the audience.  As guests enjoy a cocktail, the ladies will delight the audience with their iconic banter. Once the performance begins, guests will become part of the action as they play detective and try to solve the mystery. At the end of the night, the audience will try to solve the mystery and guess whodunnit. One winner will win a prize.

2) Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville

With a book by Emmy Award winner Greg Garcia and Emmy nominee Mike O'Malley, Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville is jam-packed with Jimmy Buffett’s most beloved classic tunes including “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Margaritaville,” “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” “Fins,” “Volcano,” and many more.  When Tully, a carefree singer-songwriter at a tropical resort, and Rachel, a workaholic vacationer from up north, meet sparks fly as these opposites attract and romance abounds in this heartwarming and hilarious musical comedy.

3) Meet Me in St. Louis

The heartwarming musical based on the Judy Garland movie. It is the summer of 1903, and everyone in the Smith family eagerly anticipates the opening of the 1904 World’s Fair. Over the course of a year, the family's mutual respect, tempered with good-natured humor, helps them through romance, opportunity, and heartbreaks. The musical includes seven of the best-loved songs from the film, plus ten additional Martin and Blane songs written especially for the stage. Memorable musical numbers include "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "The Boy Next Door," "The Trolley Song," and "Whenever I’m with You."

4) Mrs. Roper Romp

Dust off your favorite caftan muumuus, red curly wigs and come out to the Starlight Ballroom for an evening of nostalgia with a twist. There will be party games with a Three's Company flair and themed cocktails like "The Jack Tripper" and "The Janet Special." Dance the night away to Yacht Rock hits performed by Without a Cue's professional singers.

Dress like Mrs. Roper to really join in the fun. Beyond the caftan muumuus and red curly wigs, think psychedelic prints, paisley, bright florals, or bold solids in oranges, purples, and pinks. The more flowy and flamboyant, the better. Plus chunky statement jewelry, beaded necklaces, oversized hoop earrings, gaudy cocktail rings, platform sandals, fuzzy slippers, and oversize sunglasses.

Prizes galore await lucky winners, and

the night wouldn't be complete without a surprise performance. Dressing in costume is highly encouraged (but optional). So grab your best friends, channel your inner Mrs. Roper, and prepare for a night of laughter, games, and unforgettable fun.

Note: This is not a pub crawl. Instead it's one great night of dancing, games, and hilarious fun that all Helens will approve of. Tickets include the show, with theme drinks pay-as-you-go.

5) Ginger Twinsies

You want the 411? In the summer of 1998, a pair of long lost, red-headed twin girls unexpectedly meet at sleep-away camp and hatch a plan to reunite their estranged parents. Sound familiar? Shut up, no it doesn't! Welcome to Ginger Twinsies – a loving, outlandish, and wildly inappropriate send up of the Lindsay Lohan/Nancy Meyers classic that made us all believe that Oreos go great with peanut butter, wedding gowns deserve top hats, and being young and beautiful is not a crime. So, pack your bags! Kevin Zak (no credits) invites you to enjoy this 80-minute Parent Trap parody stacked with nostalgia, camp (literally, they go camping), and some unexpected twists.

In The Gospel at Colonus, the epic myth of Oedipus is reborn as a Pentecostal ritual that remakes prophecy as testimony and brokenness as transcendence. A man condemned from birth searches for grace. A choir lifts him up. The congregation – the audience – bears witness to his tale. But here, tragedy is not an ending – it’s the road to deliverance.

While doing so, she comes across a portfolio she has never seen – containing what she and the museum think may be the best work he ever did. These photos, taken in 1970, also happen to be nudes of an underaged woman that are very sexual. When the subject, now grown, becomes aware of them, she demands that they be destroyed. 13) Chain Theatre One Act Festival

Chain Theatre’s annual Summer One-Act Festival is back and bolder than ever. . Featuring more than 90 short plays across curated nightly blocks (each 75–90 minutes), the festival offers a bold mix of dark comedy, gripping drama, and unexpected magic, with select performances available for streaming.

Headlining Program Block #1 is Paul Calderón’s gripping double bill THE INTERLUDE and VOICES FROM THE EDGE, showcasing a powerhouse performance from the acclaimed actor, writer, and co-founder of Primitive Grace Theatre Ensemble. Calderón, whose screen credits include Bosch: LegacyBoardwalk Empire, and Fear the Walking Dead, brings both plays to life alongside members of his multiracial, multigenerational company, renowned for its raw, reality-shifting work. In The Interlude, a disillusioned trainer implores his female fighter, exhibiting signs of pugilistic dementia, to leave the ring, while Voices from the Edge features four women sharing harrowing personal accounts of gun violence. Calderón’s role as playwright and performer, rooted in his identity as a Latino artist, resonates with this year’s programming.

Also featured are:

  • WHAT HAPPENED WAS, a dark comedy by Walter John Thompson, starring three-time Emmy Winner Cady McClain (Beyond the Gates, Law and Order: SVU) and directed by theater legend Obie and Drama Desk Award-winner Austin Pendleton (Between Riverside and Crazy, Orson’s Shadow). In a dilapidated bar that flickers between memory and imagination, two actors trapped in an endless loop confront love, regret, and the fragile line between reality, performance and the unbearable silence of being unseen. (Program #2)
  • From the D&D-addled mind of Twenty-Sided Tavern co-creator David Andrew Laws comes a fantastical, disembodied adventure PETER DOYLE'S INCREDIBLE HEAD. D&D theater fans- this one's for you!(Program #13)
  • MEETING MARLON by screenwriter David Rich (RenegadesMacGyverStargate: SG-1) — an offbeat comedy about two actors auditioning for a film directed by none other than Marlon Brando.

This year's lineup reflects the Chain Theatre’s commitment to culturally, politically, and socially responsive art, offering a platform where new work is incubated with purpose. Chain has recently premiered works by Eric BogosianDavid RabeLyle Kessler, and Jesse Eisenberg, who made his stage directorial debut here before winning an Academy Award for A Real Pain.

27) Roger Q. Mason’s Night Cities to Receive Reading at Cherry Picked Reading Series with
Arts Project of Cherry Grove and National Queer Theater

Acclaimed Black Filipinx playwright and Kilroys List honoree Roger Q. Mason will receive a staged reading of their play Night Cites as part of the Cherry Picked new play reading series with National Queer Theater on Monday, July 14 at 8pm at The Cherry Grove Community House & Theater (180 Bayview Walk, Cherry Grove, NY, 11782) in Fire Island. Admission is FREE with RSVP, www.nationalqueertheater.org/cherrypicked

A young Bayard Rustin—before Civil Rights Movement fame—must choose between his private desires as a queer Black man and his public calling as an agent of social justice and civic change. Set against the vibrant labor movement of the 1930s and 40s, this piece embraces the musicality, dream imagery, and liberation of jazz playwriting to explore one man's quest for complex humanity in a world that limits who we are to how we can be used for the good of others.

The reading will be directed by karl hawkins (boy meets boy meets girl at A.R.T./New York) and feature Leland Fowler (Plays for the Plague Year at The Public), Kamal Sehrawy (What in the Actual F__k? at NYTW), and Geoff Hill (Oblivious with The Barrow Group).
