I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To- Go Wednesday - Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Gardens

We were given a complimentary tour of the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Gardens for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Gardens

Where: 421 E. 61st St.
             New York, NY

Who: All ages

When you think of Mount Vernon, you think of George Washington's home in Virginia. However, there is another Moun Vernon. The Mount Vernon Hotel in New York City. This one was, in fact, named in tribute to George Washington. The hotel was originally a carriage house which opened in 1799, but was later converted into a hotel in 1826.

It was not a hotel in the sense that we think of a hotel. There were not a lot of rooms to book and most people did not stay overnight. It was more like what we would think of as a country club today. People went there for the day to escape from it all in the country because this part of New York was indeed the country in those days.

The hotel is now restored and open for guided tours Monday through Friday. Visit to learn more about what life was like in a 19th-century day hotel like the Mount Vernon and what people did there. The tour will take you through all eight furnished rooms, which include the ladies' parlor, the gentlemen's parlor and tavern room, the dining room, and more as well as the garden weather permitting. Most of the furnishings are not original to the location, as is common in many similar museums. They are, however, typical of the time period and what would have been there.

Numerous special events are held throughout the year at the hotel. They include historical reenactments,  educational workshops. and seasonal events. For more about the Musem, to book a tour, or to find out about upcoming events, visit mvhm.org/about-us

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
