The Last Podcast on Earth at first seems like an amusing lark about a couple of women who host a slutty feminist podcast, which clearly makes this show inappropriate for children. However, everything is not as light and breezy as it seems. It soon becomes apparent that things are actually much darker than they appear. Not only are the two living in an apocalyptic world. but the friendship between these two women may not be what it seems on the air as misogynistic male forces (in the form of their boss) are tearing them apart.
The show is a commentary on friendships between women, fame, modern technology, and more and how these things intersect. The performances are great, particularly in the lighter moments of the show. The show keeps you interested, invested, and wanting to know what will happen next with just enough humor to keep things from becoming too bogged down in darkness. However, it all falls apart in the end as the show limps to a highly unsatisfactory conclusion that doesn't feel satisfactory at all.
