I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday - Welcome to Matteson

We were given complimentary tickets to Welcome to Matteson for review purposes. Any and all  opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Welcome to Matteson

Where:  NJ Rep
              Lumia Theater
              179 Broadway
              Long Branch, NJ

Who: Recommended for Ages 15 and Up

When: Through October 29, 2023

When a suburban couple hosts a dinner party for their new neighbors, a couple relocated from one of Chicago's roughest neighborhoods, they may not be as welcoming as they are trying to appear. This dark comedy is a very telling cautionary tale about how prejudices don't always come from people outside of one's own race. It is sharply written with a kind of biting wit that makes it sad and funny at the same time.

The four-member cast plays off each other well and each shines in their roles. Cynthia Kaye McWilliams is particularly good in the least likable role of Patricia, a woman who is definitely not as fond of her new neighbors as she is trying to appear. There is always something simmering beneath the surface of her character that makes you want to know more about her. All in all, this is a show that will definitely make you laugh, but it will also make you think.

And that's our view. For more about Welcome to Matteson or to purchase tickets to one of the few remaining performances, go to www.njrep.org.

Tune in Sunday for this week's Sunday Scoop.
