Adapted from a vast array of General Eisenhower's memoirs, speeches, and letters, Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground is a candid and fascinating fictional eavesdropping on President Dwight D. Eisenhower at his Gettysburg, Pennsylvania farm. It is 1962 and The New York Times Magazine has published its first list ranking the American Presidents in order of greatness. Pondering his placement on the list, Eisenhower looks back on his life - his Kansas upbringing, his decorated Army career, his victories in World War II, and his two terms as President – contemplating the qualities and adversities that make an American President great.

9) Shucked
What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn. Shucked is the new musical comedy that proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life. Shucked is turning Broadway on its ear and is offering a kernel of hope for our divided nation.

21) THE FLEA
IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE
YALE DRAMA SERIES
TO PRESENT A STAGED READING AND
PRESENTATION OF THE YALE DRAMA SERIES PRIZE TO
BATHHOUSE.PPTX
BY JESÚS VALLES
DIRECTED BY CHAY YEW
TAKING PLACE MONDAY, OCTOBER 30 AT 3:00 PM
AT THE FLEA
The Flea in association with the Yale Drama Series is presenting a staged reading of BATHHOUSE.PPTX by Jesús Valles. BATHHOUSE.PPTX was selected as the 2023 recipient of the Yale Drama Series Prize judged by Jeremy O. Harris, and it is the first recipient of The Flea’s production commission program, an open call program that provides a finishing commission and full production to an experimental new work by Black, brown and/or queer artists.
BATHHOUSE.PPTX is an epic new play following The Presenter, a “young,” queer, Mexican-American public-speaking student, who is thrust into the landscapes of queer intimacy, colonialism and communal spaces for pleasure when his presentation on the history of cleanliness and bathing starts to burst at the seams with the ghosts of a bathhouse at the end of the world including A Conquistador! Wearing One of Those Hats!, A Very Real Twink, and even the appearance of Laura Linney. Valles describes it as, “A group project for perverts. Somewhere between lecture, re-enactment, and cruising ground. A meditation on queer longing, queer grief, and all our queer worlds that will come to pass, that will come to be.”
The reading at The Flea (20 Thomas Street), staged by Chay Yew, will take place on Monday, October 30 at 3:00 PM and is free and open to the public.

This new temporary exhibition highlights what it takes to become a New York City firefighter
On October 18th, the New York City Fire Museum will open a new special exhibition, “Becoming the Bravest,” which highlights the journey and training every New York City firefighter has to take to become one.
The focal point of this new exhibit will be that all firefighters—from the newly graduated to the highest-ranking uniformed member, the Chief of Department—all started in the same place: the Probationary Firefighters School at the Fire Academy. Using photographs, uniforms, helmets, patches, firefighter equipment and other unique artifacts from the Museum's collection, as well as information, photographs, and video supplied by the Department, the Museum will educate visitors about the incredible journey undertaken to become New York's Bravest.
"Becoming the Bravest" will be open through early 2024.
The Museum is located at 278 Spring Street between Varick and Hudson Streets, in the former quarters of the FDNY's Engine Company No. 30, a renovated 1904 firehouse. The Fire Museum, with roots dating to 1870, contains 30,000 objects and artifacts, features 11 galleries, and attracts some 40,000 visitors from across the globe annually.
The Museum also recently launched a fun activity for kids: a scavenger hunt that leads young visitors through the Museum’s historic exhibitions hunting for artifacts amongst century-old fire engines. The scavenger hunt is free with admission, and a surprise gift awaits those who complete the hunt!
