Mom - The play Calendar Girls is based on the 2003 movie of the same name starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walter. It is the true story of a group of older woman who pose for a nude calendar to raise funds for Leukaemia Research after one of the group's member's husband dies of cancer. While there is some brief nudity in the show, you don't really see much and it is done very tastefully. However, because of that and some strong language I wouldn't recommend the show for young children. Although the story is meaningful, it moves along at a somewhat slower pace than the film. Also, it is sometimes, hard to understand what the actors are saying particularly if you have a problem with accents. The acting is mostly good. The show does more than present a story about a group of woman raising money for cancer research. It actually does the same. The cast and crew created an actual calendar of their own which can be purchased in the theater lobby during the show's intermission. All sales of the calendar are being donated to a local cancer center.
And that's Mom's view. For more information to to purchase tickets to Calendar Girls, visit kelsey.mccc.edu/shows_current.shtml#7.
