I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

More Theater Monday - Cyrano

            New York, NY

Mom's view: Jasmine Cephas Jones' performance in the role of Roxanne is by far the highlight of the current musical production of Cyrano being presented by the New Group  at the Darryl Roth Theatre. If you enjoyed her performance in Hamilton, in this show she is even better and shows even more range. Peter Dinklage's acting is fine but he is not much of a singer. In fact, in general the women's singing voices are much better than the men's especially both those of  Jasmine Cephas Jones and Grace Maclean. The show itself is kind of slow, and the songs are not at all memorable. Even when you are listening to them they are kind of boring. The show has the dubious distinction of having Blake Jenner in the cast at the exact time his ex-wife, Supergirl star, Melissa Benoist publicly admitted to being abused by a former partner whom all signs point to being Jenner. Despite, this the show proceeded as normal with no disruptions or protests even during Jenner's bow which was surprising considering how quickly the public's wrath usually comes down on anyone even hinted at being an abuser these days. Perhaps, suspected spousal abuse does not yet enrage and inflame the  public in the same way that suspected sexual harrassment and/or abuse does, or maybe the audience for this show is are not the type of people who are likely to have heard of Ms. Benoist or her story.  Jenner's acting and singing are not really much worth noting. His role in the show is the pretty boy of little substance, and he pretty much lives up to that. The show  is interestingly staged with several scenes choreographed like dances. However, the main reason to see the show remains Jasmine Cephas Jones.
