"RAP INTO HISTORY" CHALLENGE
COBBLESTONE™ Invites Kids of All Ages to Submit an Original Rap about Their Favorite Person in U.S. History in This Challenge Judged by Showbiz Luminaries!
In Conjunction with the Challenge, COBBLESTONE™ Will Offer a
35% Discount on an Annual Subscription - PLUS a FREE Alexander Hamilton Issue!
The hottest musical in the country has spawned a best-selling cast soundtrack, a national tour and even #Hamilkids, a passionate group of young fans who've overtaken social media. This October, COBBLESTONE™, the award-winning magazine for aspiring historians, focuses on the "ten dollar Founding Father." To celebrate this exciting new issue, the editors are wondering which other U.S. historical leaders might inspire future Broadway songwriters. So, COBBLESTONE™ is proud to launch the "Rap Into History" Challenge!
Aimed at kids ages 9-14, the COBBLESTONE™ "Rap Into History" Challenge invites junior historians and music lovers alike to drop some cool rhymes about a person in U.S history who intrigues, excites, or challenges them. The entrants' original songs will be judged by a panel of accomplished Broadway producers including six-time Tony® Award winner Frederick Zollo (Once), two-time Tony® Award winner Jim Kierstead (Waitress, Kinky Boots), founder of Broadway for All, Osh Ghanimah, filmmaker Leah Natasha Thomas, producer of 3 ½ Minutes, which was shortlisted for the 2015 Academy Awards and COBBLESTONE™ editor Meg Cholian. The winning raps will be featured online on the "Rap Into History" mini-site, as well as in the pages of COBBLESTONE™ magazine, perhaps discovering the next Lin Manuel Miranda. Cobblestone readers may now upload their audio or video entries on the "Rap Into History" mini-site at http://www.rapintohistory.com/ . The challenge closes on October 25, and winners will be announced on November 18.

TARGET MARGIN THEATER
INSTITUTE FOR COLLABORATIVE THEATER-MAKING
2017 application open October 1 - 31, 2016
The Institute is a year-long fellowship for five theater artists to expand their artistic practice. Built on TMT’s history of nurturing talent, The Institute provides support and space for open-ended questioning and experimentation within, and at, the edges of the form of theater. Selected Fellows receive a stipend of $1,000, institutional support, and space to meet regularly to discuss, experiment, and rethink their work. This Institute is not a project development opportunity, nor is it a professional development service. There is no curriculum or “teaching” structure. There is no final result or project. The core goal is rigorously to question our own assumptions about what the theater is, what it could be, and what we would like it to be. Applications for our next Institute are open October 1-31, 2016 and announce our next round of Fellows January 2017.
Current 2016 Fellows include: Eliza Bent, Stephen Cedars, Barbara Samuels, Sugar Vendil and Dennis Yue-Yeh Li. Previous Fellows: Avi Amon, Kaaron Briscoe, Tanisha Christie, Morgan Gould, Claire Moodey, Kyoung Park, Cara Scarmack, Sarah Cameron Sunde, Ari Tabei and Peter Mills Weiss.
Tickets for all performances are available before they go on sale through our TMT 2016 / 2017 Season Subscription. For more information, please visit http://www.targetmargin.org/ support-us/membership/

WONDERFUL YOU
by
VANESSA TRIEN AND THE JUMPING MONKEYS
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS ALASTAIR MOOCK,
RANI ARBO, BARBARA BROUSAL & MISTER G
RANI ARBO, BARBARA BROUSAL & MISTER G
Sporting three Parents Choice® Awards in her hip pocket and adored by a legion of families nationwide, independent children's musician Vanessa Trien and her band The Jumping Monkeys showcase their special brand of acoustic folk-pop with a world flavor on Wonderful YOU, a new album for kids and families set for release on October 14.
Musically vibrant and diverse, with guest spots by kindie music luminariesAlastair Moock, Rani Arbo, Barbara Brousal, and Mister G (Ben Gundersheimer), Wonderful YOU has an underlying theme of "community." The album gives a musical hug to the listener -- YOU -- as it celebrates neighborhoods, family, and friends coming together to play, work, live, and of course, sing and dance.
Wonderful YOU kicks off with Vanessa Trien dueting with Alastair Moock on "One Foot in Front of the Other." "Round and Round We Go," a reggae-style exhortation to take care of our planet, features a duet with Barbara Brousal, who was for many years a key member of Dan Zanes and Friends. With guest vocals and fiddle by Rani Arbo, "Chi Chi Bom Bom" has a real Western Swing feel and tells the tale of a child who marches to her own drum, wears her clothes backward, and does the twist with frog and toad! Rani Arbo andMister G join Vanessa Trien on her terrific version of the 1958 Bo Diddley-style Johnny Otis tune, "Willie and the Hand Jive," imagining a town falling for a new dance craze.
Other highlights include a cover of the Beatles' "All Together Now," withBarbara Brousal in a cameo role, while Vanessa Trien's kids and their friends add their voices to the chorus; "Feeling Thankful," a sweet country waltz sung in harmony by Vanessa Trien, Barbara Brousal, and Rani Arbo (with Rani Arbo on fiddle); and the celebratory anthem, "Fireworks," which envisions people coming together from all over to sing on the Brooklyn Bridge, as fireworks explode gloriously overhead.
Wonderful YOU will be available online at www.vanessatrien.com, CDBaby.com, and iTunes.
