Mom's view: If you love Mozart's Magic Flute, you will love the current exhibit at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. The exhibit includes costumes, pictures, sketches and models from various productions of Mozart's Magic Flute over the years. Artists represented in the collection who have participated in a production of the opera in some capacity at one time or another include Julie Taymor, Maurice Sendak, and David Hockney. Even if you are not necessarily a fan of the opera or of a opera at all, it is still fun to go and see all the crazy colorful costumes, set designs etc. If you love the Magic Flute, it will make you want to see it. If not, seeing the exhibit still might make you want to see the opera to see how it all fits together. The exhibit is free, but if you want to see it don't hesitate as it will be closing on August 27.For more information go to https://www.nypl.org/events/exhibitions/magical-designs-mozarts-magic-flute. The Metropolitan Opera will also be presenting The Magic Flute at Lincoln Center in New York City in December and January for more informatin about that or to order tickets go to http://www.newyorkcitytheatre.com/theaters/metropolitanoperahouse/metropolitan-opera-the-magic-flute.php/.

Mom's view: If you like your musicals light and fluffy, this is not a show for you. If you like musicals that deal with serious subjects, you will enjoy this show. Topics dealt with in this show include homosexuality and suicide among other things. Despite, this at its heart ultimately this is a story about a family. The more serious subject matter makes the show not appropriate for young children. However, if you are not a young child, don't let the subject matter keep you away or you will be missing out on an entertaining well acted award winning show. In fact, many of the original cast members remain in their roles. The show will be closing on September 10 2016 so if you are interested in seeing it, you should definitely make plans to do so. For more information or to order tickets go to http://funhomebroadway.com/.
And that's Mom's view. Tune in tomorrow for another Talking Topic.
