If you are a bibliophile, you're going to love The Bookstore. This enchanting show is an absolute ode to both books and small independent bookstores. The story revolves around a year in the life of a bookstore owner and her employees.
Carey, played by Janet Zarish, is the store's purveyor. With her comprehensive book knowledge, she can quickly assess the right next book for anyone. We all could use a little Carey sometimes. Ari Derambakhsh is the free-spirited Brittany. Arielle Goldman is the more uptight Abby, an aspiring writer. The final member of the four person cast is Quentin Chisholm, a recent transplant to New York, who enters the store as a temporary refuge and finds a family. In fact, the sense of family between the characters and the camaraderie they share is a highlight of the show aside from the whole book-related theme, and it is an aspect that even those who are not particularly big book fans can appreciate.
The set is incredibly realistic-looking and overflowing with actual books, some of which get moved around throughout the course of the play. It just makes you want to run up onstage and start leafing through the bookshelves. If you enjoy looking at books, hearing about books, and/or shows about characters who love books, you won't want to miss this show!
