I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

At the start of the global pandemic, En Garde Arts invited twelve women playwrights to share their pandemic dreams.

Through sets, lights, video, and sound, each room brings each individual dream to life, sharing intimate moments that are vital to the human connection that we lost in isolation. Each room and experience is completely unique, with the playwrights’ sharing their dreams through audio and/or video, melding the language of their dreams with a stunning multi-dimensional visual representation.

5) DRAMA

THE NEW BOOK

BY TONY AWARD® WINNER

DAVID ROCKWELL

TO BE RELEASED INTERNATIONALLY

WEDNESDAY, MAY 12

PRE-ORDERS NOW BEING ACCEPTED

 AT WWW.PHAIDON.COM

Drama, the new book by architect and Tony Award®-winning set designer David Rockwell with Bruce Mau, edited by Sam Lubell, published by Phaidon will be released on Wednesday, May 12. Pre-orders are now being accepted at www.phaidon.com. Images from the book are available here.

Inspired by an early life rooted in the theater, Rockwell has long drawn on aspects of performance to frame and enhance his built work, which ranges from hotels and restaurants, theaters and museums, to set and exhibition design, to workplaces, playgrounds and academic buildings. He aims to create a story within any space he designs, evoking a sense of performance, showmanship and above all – Drama.

Phaidon is delighted to publish Drama, a rigorous exploration of Rockwell Group’s system of ideas and methods in action, found in examples from both architecture and theater, and both inside and outside the firm. Drama explores the principles at the core of Rockwell’s method, devoting chapters to six fundamental concepts: Audience, Ensemble, Worlds, Story, Journey, and Impermanence. Each chapter demonstrates how these principles may be applied not just to theater, but to a wide range of creative disciplines.

Woven through the book are a series of conversations between Rockwell and impressive figures from various creative backgrounds. These talks emphasize the value of cross-disciplinary creativity. Featured interviews include architect Daniel Libeskind, award-winning music producer and composer Quincy Jones, museum director and curator Thelma Golden, playwright and actor Anna Deavere Smith, chef and humanitarian José Andrés, Oscar-winning production designer Adam Stockhausen, president of Jujamcyn Theaters Jordan Roth, and Tony Award-winning designers Peggy Eisenhauer and Natasha Katz.

Drama is Illustrated with more than 300 striking images. Each project and concept includes insightful texts, quotes by Rockwell himself, and photographs and hand-drawn sketches. This approach results in an expressive flow of ideas and visuals that create an intuitive understanding of Rockwell’s unique ethos and design process.

Projects in the book include set designs for productions of Kinky BootsThe Normal Heart, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Moxy East Village; the flagship Nobu Downtown in New York; exhibition design for the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta; and the New York City arts center The Shed designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Lead Architect and Rockwell Group, Collaborating Architect.

PITCHBLACK Immersive Experiences presents ODD MAN OUT, (www.PitchBlackExperience.com/Odd-Man-Out/) a new at-home immersive theatrical sensory box experience. Written by Martín Bondone and directed by Bondone, Carlos Armesto, and Facundo BogarínODD MAN OUT begins with a travel box sent to your home that will allow "passengers" to be a part of the ODD MAN OUT story.

ODD MAN OUT is an audio play in darkness. It begins when "passengers" scan the QR code on their boarding pass of PITCHBLACK Airlines which they'll find in their travel box, and blindfold themselves. From there, the story allows listeners to immerse themselves in the tale of Alberto, a blind musician flying home from New York to Buenos Aires, Argentina after decades of self-exile. As listeners enter Alberto's story, they experience a 360-surround sound, multisensory "journey." Passengers stay blindfolded throughout the duration of the "flight," also engaging their senses of smell, taste and touch. They'll experience Alberto's story of love, prejudice and fears that were left behind.

ODD MAN OUT began at Teatro Ciego in Argentina, which has a 15-year history of creating live experiences in complete darkness. The theater company employs artists and technicians with visual disabilities in all their work. Forty percent of staff and creative teams are made up of blind and low-vision individuals.

The audio box experience takes 65 minutes and is available to passengers for 96 hours after they scan the QR code on their boarding pass.

A portion of the proceeds from the ODD MAN OUT Immersive Box Experience will go to Visions (https://www.visionsvcb.org/), which provides services for the blind and visually impaired.

This interactive experience engages and awaken your senses, tests your limits, and ultimately uses the darkness to bring you to a new light.

The ODD MAN OUT box experience includes:

* Step by Step Instructions (Blind or low-vision option includes instructions in braille).

* An exclusive 360˚ surround-sound story to be heard with headphones, after scanning the QR code on the boarding pass to access.

* Your choice of a bottle of wine, yerba mate tea (A rich, flavorful tea enjoyed in Argentina, Uruguay, and Southern Brazil), or water, along with a promotional airline glass.

* A gourmet Argentine treat (to be enjoyed during the experience)

* Sensorial elements (smell, touch, taste) that will engage and awaken your senses within the story.

 * The necessary items to set your table space, cover your eyes, and to let you be
swept away by the experience.

* Your choice of a bottle of wine, yerba mate tea (A rich, flavorful tea enjoyed in Argentina, Uruguay, and Southern Brazil), or water, along with a promotional airline glass.

5/14 - How a Pandemic Created an Artistic Home for Writers

A dependable haven for artists in isolation, Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) is now into its second year of non-stop weekly Community Gatherings this Friday, having offered to date over 52 conversations and unlimited camaraderie since April 17, 2020. TRU hosts their Community Gatherings every Friday at 4:30pm ET via Zoom, to explore the creation of art and theater in the time of COVID-19. Ask questions, bring answers, be part of a community – it’s an opportunity to network with theater professionals and talk about keeping theater alive during these challenging times.

To receive the Zoom invitation, email TRUnltd@aol.com with “Zoom Me” in the subject line. Check the upcoming schedule and reserve at truonline.org/tru-community-gathering. These gatherings are free for TRU members, pay-what-you-can for non-members.

Friday 5/14 at 4:30pm ET - How a Pandemic Created an Artistic Home for Writers. In the room: Cate Cammarata, Artistic Director of CreateTheater/The Experts Theater Company, and TRU members David Kurkowski (Madame Curie), Melissa Bell (Lady Capulet), Vynnie Meli (Orbital Debris) and Joel Krantz (Ocean in a Teacup). CreateTheater was already set up for development of scripts through readings and early production of work, but a pandemic pivot turned it into a theater company and artistic home for writers for the development of new work. Synergistic programs include writers groups, producing groups, readings every Thursday night within the community, and more public Monday Night readings when the work is ready for production. CLICK HERE to register and receive the link.

Videos of past Community Gatherings may be viewed on TRU’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/channel/UC43rsChi4fA23dNLeloaF_A/.
