I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Some Elements That Make Up Good Fictional Books

Me - Some elements that make a book good, wow! I like a book that has a lot of romance. However, not graphic romance just sweetness between people in love.  I like books that are humorous. I don't have to be laughing the whole time, but I appreciate some funny jokes here and there. I appreciate good writing. Some people try too hard to sound smart instead of writing something that makes sense. Relatable characters makes a book good. The size of the chapters can add to or take away from a book being good.  Sometimes, books with really long chapters are hard to get through. A good book has to have a good story that makes you want to read it. That is the most important thing.*

*The above is a guest post by older sister, Aurella.

Mom -   There are so many things that make up a good book.  A good book needs a good story. A good book needs good writing; writing that draws you into the book instead of drawing attention to itself.  A good book needs an element of unpredictabllity. Why bother read it if you already know what's going to happen? A good books needs a hook; something that gets you interested and keeps you interested. A good book needs plausability. Even if it is not something that is actually true, it has to make you believe that it in some world somewhere it could actually be true. A good book needs at least one or two characters that are relatable and preferably at least one or two characters that are likeable. A good book usually doesn't have overwhelming long chapters. A good book usually has a point of no return where you feel like you can no longer put the book down until you have finished it.  A good makes you want to read more. It makes you happy that there are so many good books in the world to read.

And that's our view. What elements do you think make up a good fictional book ?

  1. Very valid points. I like a book that keeps me guessing, that surprises me. Those tend to stick with you for a long time afterwards.
