More Theater Monday - Nutcracker

Mom's view: Yesterday we had the opportunity to attend the American Repertory Ballet's  performance of Nutcracker at State Theatre New Jersey for the second year in a row. Other than the fact that it is hard to get used to them calling their version of the ballet, Nutcracker instead of The Nutcracker, the show was a delight. It brings back memories of going to see The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center every year when I was a kid. This verison is not completely the same as that version although the basic story is the same. The music is so beautiful. American Repertory's performances of Nutcracker at State Theatre New Jersey are their only performances of the ballet which feature a live orchestra.  The music sounds especially lovely when you hear it played by a full orchestra. In addition to members of the repertory the cast included specially selected students from the Princeton Ballet School. What an honor for these young dancers  to have had the opportunity to perform on such a big stage in front of a full house crowd and how luck the audience was to have the opportunity to see them perform! The dancers were all so graceful and the whole show was just  so full of color. It was a joy to attend and experience.
