I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday: 42nd Street and The Children's Musical Theater Festival

We were given free tickets to 42nd Street for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.
What: 42nd Street

Where: Kelsey Theater
            1200 Old Trenton Rd.

Who: All ages

When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday through July 23, 2017

Me- 42nd Street is a show about a girl named Peggy Sawyer who wants to be in show business. The production of the show now at  Kelsey Theatre is very good. I liked the songs and the dancing. I  like that there is a lot of tap dancing in the show because I like tap dancing. The show has a lot of good songs. They include 42nd Street, Young and Healthy, Go Into Your Dance, and Shuffle Off to Buffalo. There are other good songs too although I don't remember all of them off the top of my head. The acting and singing were excellent. The dancing was superb especially the tap dancing! The costumes were lovely. All in all, it was an incredibly delightful show.

Mom-  42nd Street is a sweet old fashioned musical full of catchy songs and lively dances. Songs from the show which have become fairly well known include We're in the Money, Lullaby of Broadway and the title song. The plot which revolves around a fading older star and an up and coming ingenue is not the most original, but then again the show is based on a 1933 film. Besides, the cliched plot doesn't take away from the fun of the show. The current production of the show at Kelsey Theater is definitely one of their best shows. The acting and singing are good. Even performers who may not have been as good in previous roles at Kelsey shine here. The show is fun and full of energy. It will definitely leave you with a smile on your face.

What: The Children's Musical Theater Festival

Where: Baruch Center for the Performing Arts
             55 Lexington Ave.
             New York, NY

When: July 15, 2017

The Children's Musical Festival is a festival where children are given the opportunity to perform in shows that are either new musicals that are being tried out or shows that have been newly adapted into shorter versions. Ultimately, the shows are meant for performance for or by children in schools or other theater groups. Two shows are performed at the festival.

Me- Giants in the Sky is a show about Giants living in the clouds. One young giant doesn't understand why they can't visit Earth, and she decides to sneak out and visit there anyway. The show is enjoyable. The plot is cute. The songs are fun. Some of them like Beautiful Sky are really pretty. Others like Playground and Me and My Screen are really funny. The whole show is very entertaining and full of both sweet and humorous moments. The songs are so good that if they were available for download, we would definitely get some of them. The production of the show at the Children's Musical Theater Festival was really good. The acting was great. The singing was too.  Over all, it was a really enjoyable show.

Mom - We Will Rock You is a jukebox musical based on the songs of the musical group Queen. It is not a biographical like shows like Beautiful and On Your Feet. It is more like Mamma Mia in that it is a unique story with a plot that just happens to use the songs of Queen. This particular musical is very unique. It is about a futuristic world where there is no music and everything is computerized. The show is very funny. Even the character names are funny including a male character named Brittany Spears. Several of the character names come directly from Queen songs and those are funny too including Galileo Figaro and Scaramouche. The plot is little crazy at times but the show is still fun. The songs include some of Queen's most popular songs like We Are The Champions, We Will Rock You, and Another One Bites the Dust. It also includes some of Queen's songs that might not be as well known like Headlong. This show unlike Giants in the Sky is not original. It has been performed before but this is a new version adapted for kids. The production of the show at the Children's Musical Festival was really well done. It was delightfully acted and pleasantly sung.  It was just a really fun show.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Funtivity Friday.
