I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday - Cult of Love

What: Cult of Love

Where: Hayes Theatre
             240 W. 44th St.
            New York, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 16 and Up

When: Through February 2, 2025

The Dahl family at the center of the new play, Cult of Love by Leslye Headland put the dis in disfunction. This show about four adult children and their significant others returning home for the holidays is hilarious and heartbreaking. The stellar cast includes several performers best known for TV and/or movies including some making their Broadway debuts. Among others, it also includes Tony nominee, Mare Winningham, in another brilliant performance this time as a mother choosing to turn a blind eye to things that are actually going on in her family and see things only as she wants them to be.

Although the show is not a musical, it contains plenty of music. It is loaded with Christmas carols as the family at its center is prone to break out in song at any moment. Although none of the performers are especially known for their singing, in fact, most if not all are not really known for their singing at all, the songs sound lovely and the voices blend beautifully.

If you come from an especially dysfunctional family and you find the holidays particularly fraught, you may find this show triggering. However, if not, you may even find this show comforting as your family (and your holidays) cannot possibly be as bad as this one.
