The Allison and Robert Mignone Hall of Gems and Minerals at the American Museum of Natural History includes 1,000s of gems, carvings, and pieces of jewelry made up of every kind of gem and/or mineral you can think of. Special displays include one on all birthstones, a butterfly pattern made up of every color diamond, and a rock slab from the Sterling Hill Mine in Ogdensburg, NJ consisting of a variety of fluorescent mineral species.
Learn all about the many varieties of gems and minerals at the museum. Find out about their origins, how they are studied, how they are classified, and so much more. Plus, they are just really pretty to look at as well.
