Our Class follows ten Polish classmates, five Jewish and five Catholic, growing up as playmates, friends, and neighbors, who then turn on one another with life and death consequences. The piece comes at a time when the world is facing an increase in antisemitism across the globe. Our Class was a featured production of the 2024 Under the Radar Festival, and has received multiple award nominations: a Drama League Award Nomination for Outstanding Revival of a Play; an Outer Critics Circle Award Nomination for Outstanding Featured Performer in an Off-Broadway Play (Gus Birney); and a Drama Desk Award Nomination for Outstanding Projection and Video Design (Eric Dunlap).
Critics raved about the New York Premiere production of Our Class at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). But this woman, Tomorrow Marie, is no mere muse, and she’s about to give Bill much more than he bargained for. Set against the backdrop of the 1964 Harlem riot on a hot summer night, Wine in the Wilderness is a rarely-seen play from the brilliant mind of Alice Childress, whose Trouble in Mind recently took Broadway by storm. That production’s star, Tony-winner LaChanze, brings her deep connection to Childress's work to her New York directing debut.

When a bus is forced to take shelter from stormy weather outside, a mismatched group of dreamers and cowboys, waitresses and outcasts find unexpected warmth in one another. In William Inge’s 1955 classic, this great playwright of the Midwest gives voice to memorable characters who’ll linger like the perfect cup of diner coffee. This production of Bus Stop will be the first to feature an all-Asian American cast taking on this quintessential play of the Midwest.
7) Classical Theatre of Harlem
As the Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) prepares to celebrate its milestone 25th Anniversary year in 2024, the staple of artistic excellence in New York City announces its final shows for 2023 and its upcoming season lineup. CTH will launch its 2024 season as the only free outdoor “Shakespeare in the Park” in New York City, as the Delacorte shutters for renovations.

This production is set at the height of the Harlem Renaissance and explores a tale of four young lovers, a troupe of rude mechanicals, and mischievous fairies all embroiled in romantic chaos within the mystical forest.

8) Second Stage Theater
After winning the 2024 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play for Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Appropriate, Second Stage Theater (Bennett Leak, Interim Artistic Director; Lisa Lawer Post, Executive Director) has announced the fall slate for its upcoming 46th Anniversary Season.
The fall season will include the New York debut of Emmy Award-nominee Leslye Headland’s (Bachelorette, “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” “Russian Doll”) play, CULT OF LOVE, on Broadway at the Hayes Theater (240 West 44th Street), directed by Drama League Award-nominee Trip Cullman (2ST’s Lobby Hero, Choir Boy). This production will mark Ms. Headland’s Broadway debut.
The season will also include the New York premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies’ (Dinner with Friends, Collected Stories) play, LUNAR ECLIPSE, directed by Drama League Award-winner Kate Whoriskey (2ST’s The Apiary, 2ST’s Clyde’s), off-Broadway at the Tony Kiser Theater (305 West 43rd Street). The production will star Tony Award-winner Reed Birney (Mass, The Humans) and Drama Desk Award-nominee Lisa Emery (“Ozark,” A Kind of Alaska).

9) Get Out Your Red, White, and Blue
& Celebrate Independence Day at Playland
In addition to the iconic and popular rides and attractions at Playland, on July Fourth, guests can also look up to see a Statue of Liberty high up on stilts, get their face painted or get airbrush tattoos. Then at 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm all weekend long, families can enjoy special Kiddyland Shows featuring actor Peter Michael Marino, who has performed in dozens of New York City, Off-Broadway, regional festivals and family-friendly shows. To top off the night, Playland will host a stunning firework display at 9 pm at Playland Beach with panoramic views of the Long Island Sound. Playland will continue its weekly Friday and Saturday nights fireworks, which will continue throughout the summer.
For the rest of the holiday weekend, Playland will kick off the Playland Summer Concert Series, presented by The Capitol Theatre, starting on Saturday, July 6th at 7 pm, bringing the rhythms of rock and pop through dynamic live performances from a variety of artists and musical groups. The concert series will continue at Playland every other Saturday at 7 pm until August 31.
In addition, starting Sunday, July 7th at 2 pm and continuing every other week until September 1st, Playland and The Capitol Theatre will present The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series that translates some of music’s most recognizable anthems into age-appropriate sing-alongs suitable for listeners of all ages, with classic titles from a variety of genres such as classic rock, new wave, pop, and pop-punk. The concert series will feature interactive kid-friendly covers of Queen, Talking Heads, Taylor Swift, Blink 182, and The Beatles, and more.

Starting July 6 to September 1, 2024, Playland is collaborating with the live music venue in Port Chester to present family-friendly entertainment every other weekend, including performances by The Rock and Roll Playhouse and Summer Sounds Concert Series Get ready to rock this summer at Playland as the historic amusement park and waterfront destination announces a first-time partnership with The Capitol Theatre, also known as “The Original Rock Palace” headquartered in Port Chester, NY, to offer live music and entertainment at Playland’s Main Stage every other weekend from July to September. Whether taking on thrilling rides at the amusement park or soaking in the sun by the beach or pool, visitors can complete their day of recreation and relaxation by jamming out to fun, family friendly tunes. Programming will kick off on Saturday, July 6th at 7 pm with the Playland Summer Sounds Concert Series, presented by The Capitol Theatre, bringing the rhythms of rock and pop through dynamic live performances from a variety of cover artists and musical groups. The South Street Seaport Museum announces Beach Fest at the Seaport Museum on Saturday, July 6, from 11am to 2pm at Pier 16 (Fulton and South Streets). Each Summer, the Seaport brings fun, sand, and music to Seaport Square with Beach Fest. Come learn about climate change and how New Yorkers interact with water resources. Join the Seaport Museum at the Seaport Kids x Music Fest to learn about watersheds––areas of land that drain or “shed” rainfall and snowmelt into streams and rivers. Using 3D models of the New York Harbor and Catskill Watersheds, we will get hands-on while investigating ways in which people in New York City interact with water resources, learning how land-based pollution such as litter and automobile drippings enter our waterways through run-off, and inspecting how we get our water from upland sources. No registration needed. This all-ages activity takes place outdoors and walk-ups are welcome.
Forging Maritime Metals 12–2pm | Pier 16 | Free
This drop-in metalworking demonstration will delve into the crucial role of blacksmiths during the Age of Sail, both on land and aboard ships at sea. This all-ages program will spark interest into the maritime blacksmithing trade and provide visitors with insight into the construction and maintenance of historic vessels, like the 1885 tall ship Wavertree. Stop by Pier 16 where you can witness the creation of vital components that held hulls together. In addition, you will learn about the diverse array of tools created by blacksmiths such as those utilized by the ship’s carpenter, pots and utensils employed by the cook, harpoons and knives used by whalers, and even colossal anchors like those near Bowne & Co. Stationers. With such a rich history to explore, these experiences promise an immersive journey into the blacksmiths of maritime past and present. No registration needed. This activity takes place outdoors at Pier 16 and walk-ups are welcome.
