Where-To-Go Wednesday: OUT of the Jewelry Box

What: OUT of the Jewelry Box

Who: All ages 

OUT of the Jewelry Box is an exhibit of works of Jewelry by queer artists and their allies. While some of the objects on display have been newly acquired by the museum, some were already in their collection. The exhibit includes pieces made out of a wide variety of materials including wood, metal, buttons, found objects, and more. Artists represented in the collection include David Webb, Sharon Church, Keith Lewis, Noma Copley, and many others. 

The inspiration for the pieces in the collection varies from capturing personal memories to commenting on social injustices to creating new worlds, and more. Although you cannot necessarily determine what was in the artists' minds just by looking at the pieces, the Bloomberg Connects app provides a detailed look into some of the pieces on display as told in the artists' own words or in the words of people who knew them well. However, even if you don't listen to the additional information provided in the app, it is still worth visiting the exhibit to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of the wide array of jewelry available to view in the exhibit.
