I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

More Theater Monday - The Mikado

We were given complimentary tickets to The Mikado for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are own.

What: The Mikado

Where: Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College
             119 E. 68th St.
              New York NY

When: This event took place from January 6 - January 14, 2024

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players' current production of The Mikado eliminates the stereotypical elements that make the original show uncomfortable for today's audience but maintains the basic gist of the plot, setting, and characters. The plot may not always be the most logical which is somewhat typical for Gilbert & Sullivan shows, but it is loads of fun and full of a treasure trove of delightful songs, which is also typical of Gilbert & Sullivan shows at least the more popular ones. Some of the more well-known songs from this show include "Three Little Maids from School" and "Titwillow".

This version of the show was both well-acted and beautifully sung. David Malcaluso was particularly amusing in the role of Ko-Ko, the lord high executioner of Titipu. We look forward to the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players' next production coming this Spring. For more about that see below.

And that's our view. The next production of the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players will be a joint production of The Sorcerer & Trial by Jury on April 6 & 7, 2024. For more about that or the company in general, go to nygasp.org/current-season
