I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Two Gentlemen of Verona

Now he’s smitten with his best friend’s lover, but Julia has no intention of going away quietly. Five by Ten: An Evening of Short Plays by Tennesse Williams

The five Tennessee Williams one-act plays featured in Five by Tenn are “The Strangest Kind of Romance,” “The Last of My Solid Gold Watches,” “The Lady of Larkspur Lotion,” “Talk to Me Like the Rain and Let Me Listen” and “Hello From Bertha.”

While each play is set within a rather shabby bedroom in a rather seedy location from East St. Louis to New Orleans, the audience is introduced to a delightful range of seven female and eight male Williams’ characters striving to survive and thrive within their less-than-fortunate situations.

Mr. Parker

At 54 years old, Terry Parker finds himself at a crossroads in his life. After the loss of his partner of 30 years, he finds himself suddenly single and unable to adjust to a world that has moved on without him. After a heavy night of drinking, he wakes up with a 28-year-old bartender/uber-driver. These two very different people begin a tentative relationship, and what starts out as a one-night stand becomes a journey of self-discovery for a man trying to let go of a past and move forward, while dealing with the pleasures of being middle-aged, gay, and alone in the ever-changing landscape of today’s America. Mr. Parker had its world premiere at Island City Stage in Miami, FL in June 2018 and its New York premiere at Penguin Rep Theatre in Stony Point, NY in September 2019.

The Singing Windmills

The Singing Windmills explores the life and work of the legendary Solomon Mikhoels, a Soviet Jewish actor, the artistic director of the Moscow State Jewish Theater and the chairman of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee. The production attempts to make sense of and restore the lives and art of legendary heroes, whose breath was cut short and whose legacy was erased. This production ponders on eternal questions, the fate of an artist, the secrets behind inspiration and the price that one is willing to pay for it.

Theatre 71, 152 West 71 St.
Through 6/12

True Confessions of a Straight Man

Rooted in Antonia Kasper's real-life experiences, TRUE CONFESSIONS OF THE STRAIGHT MAN was originally written as a movie back in 1997. After circulating her screenplay among industry gatekeepers, several similar films hit theaters a few years later. In 2019, she showcased the project as a play at The Players Theatre for the 50th anniversary of Stonewall. Now it is a retro time capsule capturing the queer and straight nightlife and lifestyle in NYC in the 90s. Antonia Kasper's intention is to continue sending the message that no matter how you identify, who you love, or how you love... that love is love.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre inside West Bank Cafe (407 West 42 Street, just west of 9th Avenue)
Thursdays June 9 & 30 and Friday June 24

Yes, Reflections of Molly Bloom

It is Ireland in the early hours of June 17th, 1904. Molly Bloom’s husband – the philandering Leopold “Poldy” Bloom – has just come home and fallen asleep in their Dublin row house. Molly – a daughter, a mother, a lover and a long-suffering wife – patrols the pathways of her wild and leaping consciousness. She is lustful. Scared. Exuberant. Heartbreakingly lonely. Vivaciously reckless. And profoundly funny.

With an empty nest, an unfulfilling affair, and a marriage long past its prime, Molly contemplates the love that she and Bloom once shared. Her unsentimental stream of consciousness is a song of songs that reaches backwards and forwards across the centuries. Molly seeks to reanimate that love of Bloom, and ends up discovering herself – as a woman seeking purpose and a desire to be relevant, even after that love is over and her children are gone. Through reflection, Dublin becomes Gibraltar, age becomes youth, and a small room in Ireland becomes the world.

The Bryant Park outdoor Reading Room is located at the 42nd Street allée – between 5th & 6th Avenues – under the London Plane trees. Because of the outdoor locale, there is ample seating for all to enjoy.

The space is defined by five specially designed carts: one cart is devoted to authors who have participated in the Bryant Park literary series and best sellers; one cart is filled with a complete “Classics” collection; one cart is dedicated to children's books; one cart carries magazines; and one cart is committed to a variety of newspapers. And what makes the Reading Room even more special is that over the course of each summer, there are dozens of programs promoting multiple themes and genres for the public to attend. From poetry to fiction, non-fiction to book clubs, writers workshops, and programs for children, it is a popular destination for bookworms and authors alike and is free to the public.

5) CHARLOTTE COHN
TO PRESENT

FREE ONE-NIGHT ONLY READING OF
“CHURCH & STATE”
BY JASON ODELL WILLIAMS
TO BENEFIT SANDY HOOK PROMISE,
SAFER COUNTRY & THE BRADY CAMPAIGN

STEPHEN WISE FREE SYNAGOGUE
(30 WEST 68th STREET, NYC 10023)

TUESDAY, JUNE 7, 2022 @ 8PM

In response to the recent massacres in Buffalo and Uvalde, producer and director Charlotte Cohn will present a free one-night-only reading of Church & State, the award-winning play by Jason Odell Williams, to benefit Sandy Hook PromiseSafer Country, and the Brady Campaign. The 75-minute reading will be followed by an interactive talkback with politicians, activists and the creative team on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 8PM at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue (30 W. 68th St. - between Columbus Ave. & Central Park West). Although tickets are FREE, you must register here.

The reading will feature Rob Nagle as Senator Charles Whitmore, reprising the role he played Off-Broadway and in L.A., earning him an Ovation Award nomination for “Best Actor.” He will be joined by the reuniting Berkshire Theatre Group production cast members Judy Jerome as Sara Whitmore, Keira Naughton as Alex Klein, and Andy Talen in multiple supporting roles.

In Church & State, a Republican Senator sets his re-election campaign into a tailspin after his off-the-cuff remarks signal a possible change of heart about the Second Amendment (and God) following an elementary school shooting in his hometown. As his devoutly Christian wife and liberal Jewish campaign manager try to contain the damage, this look at how religion influences politics and how politics has become a religion is simultaneously funny, heartbreaking, and uplifting.

Donations of all sizes are encouraged before or after the event and will be divided among the excellent gun safety organizations Sandy Hook PromiseSafer Country, and the Brady Campaign.

If you cannot attend the reading, please consider donating to these wonderful organizations.
