What: Independence Seaport Museum
Where: 211 S. Columbus Blvd.
Philadelphia, PA
Who: All ages
There was a whole section about disasters at sea. There was a computer game you could play related to it. You had to save the passengers. It was super hard, but it was fun. There were a lot of pretty paintings of boats. There were several mastheads from boats. There were models of ships too. There was a whole room full of boats.
You could also go on a paddleboat. It was very tiring though. I would rather ride on a boat where I don't have to peddle. I would like to try a rowboat at least once because I have never been on one. There were a lot of places to eat and a little park nearby. They had really good ice cream. Independence Seaport is an enjoyable place to go, I would recommend it.
Mom -Independence Seaport Museum is an engaging venue where you can learn everything you could ever want to know about the Philadelphia region's waterways. It is full of engaging exhibits including many interactive exhibits. Permanent exhibits include Patriots and Pirates where you can board a replica pirate ship or spin a wheel to determine if you are a patriot or a pirate.
There is also an exhibit on the World War I ship USS Olympia. The actual ship is docked at the museum as well and you can visit it. You can visit the Submarine Becuna, which is located at the museum, as well. You can find out everything you want to know about the region's waterways on the high-tech River Continuum Wall in the River Alive Exhibit.
The Museum even provides the opportunity to experience the region's waterways firsthand by taking a paddleboat ride around the Penn's Landing basin in one of their giant swan-shaped paddleboats. Paddleboat rides are only offered May through September, however. There is also a Kayak club for anyone interested in Kayaking whether they are just beginners or they are experienced kayakers. All in all, there is a lot to see and experience at the Independence Seaport Museum.
And that's our view.
