Where: Netflix
If you didn't have a chance to catch the all-star run of The Boys in the Band on Broadway a few seasons ago which featured Emmy winner, Jim Parsons; Golden Globe winner, Matt Bomer, and Tony-nominated, Andrew Rannells, among others, now is your chance. The show has been converted to a Netflix movie with its original cast intact. The show was originally presented in 1968 Off-Broadway. At the time it was groundbreaking due to its realistic portrayal of the lives of gay men. The recent 50th anniversary Broadway production was noteworthy too not only for being the first time the show was presented on Broadway and/or for its stellar cast but also for being cast entirely with well-known openly gay men. The show revolves around a birthday party during which the guests get increasingly drunk and things get increasingly heated and secrets are revealed. It is definitely not a show for children nor for if you are looking for something that is overwhelmingly happy and uplifting. However, it is well-acted by the previously discussed all-star cast and well written by the playwright, Mart Crowley, who died between the Broadway run of the show and the current movie, and to whom this version of the show is dedicated.
