The Museum will kick off this year of celebration with a special event onSaturday, April 29, 2017 from 11am to 5pm. This family-friendly event will include free admission to all of the Museum's offerings within the historic seaport district, including tours of its current exhibitions Street of Ships: The Port and Its People, The Original Gus Wagner. The Maritime Roots of Modern Tattoo, and The Architecture of Trade: Schermerhorn Row and the Seaport; tours of the historic ships Ambrose and Wavertree; printing demonstrations at the Bowne print shops at 209-211 Water Street; and fun family activities and music on Pier 16. The 50th anniversary year will be inaugurated with a special bell-ringing ceremony aboard the lightship Ambrose with special guest New York City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer ringing Ambrose's 110 year old bronze bell at 1:00pm. Honored guests will also include Council Member Margaret Chin, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Tom Finkelpearl, and the trustees, members, friends, and volunteers of the South Street Seaport Museum.
The lightship Ambrose, a floating lighthouse, stood watch at the front door to New York Harbor during the greatest period of immigration in US history. She was a critical aid to navigation, helping cargo and passenger ships to safely enter New York, but she had another vital role as well. She was the first thing an immigrant would see as they entered New York Harbor, long before the buildings and piers on the waterfront, long before the Manhattan skyline, and long before the lighted torch of Lady Liberty; Ambrose served as the first beacon of liberty to an arriving soon-to-be American. The Seaport Museum celebrates the immigration that built New York and the United States by ringing the bell of Ambrose, the lightship of liberty, in loud and clear announcement of New York's fundamental value of tolerance.
April 2017 marks fifty years since the Museum received its charter from the New York State Department of Education Board of Regents. Over that fifty years the Museum has grown dramatically, collecting artifacts and works of art documenting the rise of New York as a port city.; developing and implementing innovative and award-winning programming; mounting exhibitions; and preserving a fleet of historic ships on the East River. Despite three massive setbacks: the 9/11 attacks, the Great Recession of 2008, and the floodwaters of hurricane Sandy, the museum is growing once again. With support from New York City and a dedicated group of staff, volunteers, members and friends, the Seaport Museum remains an educational and cultural gem in lower Manhattan.
The Seaport Museum's 50th anniversary will be marked throughout the year with the opening of new exhibitions, including Millions: Migrants and Millionaires aboard the Great Liners, 1900-1914 (opening June 2017), artistic and musical performances, lectures and book talks, walking tours, and a formal 50th anniversary cocktail reception aboard the 1885 ship Wavertree in September.

Whipped Cream will have its New York premiere with American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House on May 22, 2017.
Delightfully whimsical, this new full-length production springs from the imagination of American Ballet Theatre Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky and pop surrealist Mark Ryden. Based on the 1924 Viennese ballet Schlagobers (Whipped Cream) with music by Richard Strauss, Whipped Cream follows a young boy who overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop and falls into a delirium.

DAN GOGGIN’S INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MUSICAL SENSATION
NUNSENSE
WILL PREMIERE A SINFULLY FUNNY PILOT OF THE NEW EPISODIC TELEVISION SHOW ONLINE ON TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 2017
THE SERIES FEATURES STARS OF STAGE AND SCREEN INCLUDING
PHYLLIS SMITH, DARLENE LOVE, BETH LEAVEL, KAREN ZIEMBA, DEE HOTY, AND CHRISTOPHER SIEBER
Dan Goggin’s internationally acclaimed musical sensation, Nunsense will premiere the sinfully funny pilot episode of “Nunsense: The TV Series” online, Tuesday April 25, 2017. The new series, which features stars of stage and screen, can be viewed starting at 12:01 AM at www.nunsensetv.com. The pilot was shot at a former monastery in Union City, New Jersey. Click here for a sneak peek trailer.
When funding for Mt. St. Helen’s School’s music and arts program gets cut, Reverend Mother Mary Regina and the Little Sisters of Hoboken take matters into their own hands. “Nunsense: The TV Series” follows the zany antics of the world’s most famous nuns as they enter “Hoboken Has Talent,”a local variety show competition, with their sights set on winning the $100,000 Grand Prize. Having previously staged a fundraising show to help bury fifty-two nuns accidentally poisoned by Sister Julia, Child of God, the Little Sisters of Hoboken officially consider themselves expert entertainers.
“Nunsense: The TV Series” features stars of stage and screen, including Mary Stout as “Reverend Mother Mary Regina,” Bambi Jones as “Sister Mary Hubert,” Tony Award-winner Beth Leavel as “Sister Robert Anne,” Jeanne Tinker as “Sister Mary Amnesia,” “The Office” star Phyllis Smith as “Sister Julia,” Tony Award-winner Karen Ziemba as “Sister Mary Leo,” Dee Hoty as “Sister Mary Wilhelm,” June Gable as “Sister Rose Seraphine,”Christina Pumariega as “Sister Mary Michaela,” Christopher Sieber as “Father Virgil Manley Trott,” Jeff Blumenkrantz as “Brother Anthony,” Lee Roy Reams as “The Saint,” Scott Willis as “Father Kuligowski,” Jim Ferris as “Brother Patrick,” Melinda Tanner “Sister Brendan,” and Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Darlene Love as Herself.
Nunsense is the creation of Catholic-school-educated author/composer Dan Goggin, and follows a fictitious order of merry nuns, the “Little Sisters of Hoboken,” as they put on a fund-raising show at their school, Mt. St. Helens (home of the Volcanoes). Nunsense premiered in New York City at the Cherry Lane Theater in 1985, where it won four Outer Critics' Circle Awards, including “Best Off-Broadway Musical.” It transferred to the Douglas Fairbanks Theater on 42nd Street, where it ran for over 10 years, and has been presented all over the world in over 10,000 productions (and counting), in 26 languages, and grossing more than $500,000,000. During its New York run, Nunsense became the second longest running musical in Off-Broadway history, eclipsed only by legendary The Fantasticks.

MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale), closes its 75th anniversaryseason with Victor Herbert's Babes in Toyland on April 27, 2017 at 7pm at Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall (57th Street and 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019). The production will be conducted and directed by MasterVoices' Artistic Director Ted Sperling and will feature Kelli O'Hara(Contrary Mary), Bill Irwin (Master Toymaker), Christopher Fitzgerald (Alan),Lauren Worsham (Jane), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Tom Tom), Jonathan Freeman (Uncle Barnaby), Chris Sullivan (Gonzorgo), Jeffrey Schecter (Roderigo), Michael Kostroff (Chief Inspector Marmaduke), and Blair Brown(The Narrator), with the 130 singers of MasterVoices and Orchestra of St. Luke's. Musical Staging by Andrew Palermo, Costume Consulting by Tracy Christensen, and Concert Adaptation by Joe Keenan and Ted Sperling.
A huge hit when it premiered in New York in 1903, Victor Herbert's Babes in Toyland hasn't seen a major revival in New York City in over 85 years. Full of glorious melodies, Babes in Toyland tells a story that is both amusing and scary: villainous Uncle Barnaby plots the deaths of his young niece and nephew, Alan and Jane, in order to gain their inheritance. After many twists and turns, the siblings, with the help of several Mother Goose characters, thwart his efforts and bring happiness back to Toyland. MasterVoices will present the original score in its full orchestration, including beloved songs "Toyland", "March of the Toys", and "I Can't Do the Sum", giving the audience a rare chance to experience this musical extravaganza afresh.
Babes in Toyland tickets ($20-$150) are available at Carnegie Hall (carnegiehall.org | CarnegieCharge 212-247-7800 | Box Office at 57th and Seventh). For more information, visit mastervoices.org.

Audiences follow daughters Nyasha and Manyara as they journey through a mystical jungle to be presented to the king as possible wives. Along the way, the girls encounter a number of extraordinary situations designed to test their kindness, compassion and strength of spirit. Told with authentic African drumming, colorful staging, and powerful choreography, Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters unmasks the true meaning of beauty and celebrates the mystery and splendor of the African continent.

South Street Seaport Museum
celebrates its
50th Anniversary
The South Street Seaport Museum, situated in the original port that built New York into the city it is today, will celebrate fifty years this year! The Seaport Museum invites the city to join in the celebration of this important milestone, which will be recognized over an entire year (April 2017-April 2018) of special programming and exhibitions.

FINAL WEEK!
ROUNDABOUT THEATRE COMPANY
Presents
The Strictly limited engagement will conclude
on April 30 at 2:00 PM
Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) will conclude the world-premiere production of If I Forget by Roundabout Underground alumni playwright Steven Levenson (The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin;Dear Evan Hansen), directed by Daniel Sullivan on Sunday, April 30. The cast includes Larry Bryggman (Picnic), Maria Dizzia(“Orange is the New Black”), Tasha Lawrence (Good People), Jeremy Shamos (Noises Off), Seth Steinberg, Kate Walsh(“Grey’s Anatomy”), Gary Wilmes (Irrational Man).
If I Forget is a sharply funny, unflinchingly honest new play about the stories we choose to believe, the compromises we can’t avoid and the hurt only our nearest and dearest can inflict.
In the final months before 9/11, liberal Jewish studies professor Michael Fischer has reunited with his two sisters to celebrate their father's 75th birthday. Each deeply invested in their own version of family history, the siblings clash over everything from Michael’s controversial scholarly work to the mounting pressures of caring for an ailing parent. As destructive secrets and long-held resentments bubble to the surface, the three negotiate—with biting humor and razor-sharp insight—how much of the past they’re willing to sacrifice for a chance at a new beginning. If I Forget tells a powerful tale of a family and a culture at odds with itself.
TICKET INFORMATION:
Tickets for If I Forget are available by calling 212.719.1300, online at roundabouttheatre.org, and in person at any Roundabout box office: The Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 W 46th Street); American Airlines Theatre Box office (227 West 42nd Street) and Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street). SPECIAL SOLO "RELAXED PERFORMANCE" BYCHILDREN'S MUSIC LEGENDLAURIE BERKNER-- 11:00 a.m.McCARTER THEATRE CENTER
In addition to children's music superstar Laurie Berkner's previously scheduled 3:00 p.m. family show with her band on Saturday, April 29 at the McCarter Theatre Center, 91 University Place, Princeton, NJ, Laurie will give a special, solo "relaxed performance" at 11:00 a.m. on the same day.
Especially for this relaxed performance, Laurie Berkner will perform solo in an environment that has been adapted to provide a welcoming and judgment-free atmosphere for individuals with autism, learning differences, or other sensory and communication needs, so that they and their families may enjoy Laurie's live performance together.
In addition, professional staff will be on hand to assist parents and caregivers, a family restroom will be available, and there will be designated activity and relaxation areas in the lobby.
The McCarter Theatre Center has presented four relaxed performances in the past, including productions of Into the Woods, White Snake, Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, and last season’s Muppet Sing-A-Long Movie.
A pioneer in children's music over the last twenty years, the legendary Laurie Berkner will bring such well-loved hits as "Bumblebee (Buzz Buzz)," "Victor Vito," "We Are The Dinosaurs," and "Pig on Her Head" to this relaxed performance, along with songs like "Bicycle," "Bubbles," and "I've Got So Much To Give" from her new album, Superhero. Laurie will showcase many fan favorites, including an array of tunes that encourage kids and grownups alike to get up and dance. Kids should plan to bring their dancing shoes and a stuffed animal (for their heads).
At her solo shows, in addition to familiar hits, Laurie Berkner performs songs that don't always fit with a full-band performance: tunes with simpler arrangements, hand motions, and a cappella singing, like "Bottle Caps," "One Seed," "Telephone," and "Drive My Car."
To give everyone a chance to catch their breath between high-energy moments, the show will include quieter interludes, with songs such as Laurie's classic "Moon Moon Moon."
A former preschool music teacher by day and indie rocker by night, Laurie Berkner started selling her music nearly two decades ago out of her living room on her own label, Two Tomatoes Records. Time Magazine lauded Laurie as "a kind of sippy-cup Sheryl Crow ... Berkner inhabits a kid's curious perspective in her lyrics and pens folk-pop melodies that bear repeated -- very repeated -- listenings." The Wall Street Journal called Laurie "one of the most popular children's performers in America ... her music is distinctive because it speaks to kids without talking down to them, charming youngsters without boring grown-ups."
Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers is publishing three picture books by Laurie Berkner over the next two years. The first, We Are the Dinosaurs, was just released, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the release of Laurie's beloved "We Are the Dinosaurs" song on her very first album, Whaddaya Think of That?
