The Museum will kick off this year of celebration with a special event onSaturday, April 29, 2017 from 11am to 5pm. This family-friendly event will include free admission to all of the Museum's offerings within the historic seaport district, including tours of its current exhibitions Street of Ships: The Port and Its People, The Original Gus Wagner. The Maritime Roots of Modern Tattoo, and The Architecture of Trade: Schermerhorn Row and the Seaport; tours of the historic ships Ambrose and Wavertree; printing demonstrations at the Bowne print shops at 209-211 Water Street; and fun family activities and music on Pier 16. The 50th anniversary year will be inaugurated with a special bell-ringing ceremony aboard the lightship Ambrose with special guest New York City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer ringing Ambrose's 110 year old bronze bell at 1:00pm. Honored guests will also include Council Member Margaret Chin, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Tom Finkelpearl, and the trustees, members, friends, and volunteers of the South Street Seaport Museum.
The lightship Ambrose, a floating lighthouse, stood watch at the front door to New York Harbor during the greatest period of immigration in US history. She was a critical aid to navigation, helping cargo and passenger ships to safely enter New York, but she had another vital role as well. She was the first thing an immigrant would see as they entered New York Harbor, long before the buildings and piers on the waterfront, long before the Manhattan skyline, and long before the lighted torch of Lady Liberty; Ambrose served as the first beacon of liberty to an arriving soon-to-be American. The Seaport Museum celebrates the immigration that built New York and the United States by ringing the bell of Ambrose, the lightship of liberty, in loud and clear announcement of New York's fundamental value of tolerance.
April 2017 marks fifty years since the Museum received its charter from the New York State Department of Education Board of Regents. Over that fifty years the Museum has grown dramatically, collecting artifacts and works of art documenting the rise of New York as a port city.; developing and implementing innovative and award-winning programming; mounting exhibitions; and preserving a fleet of historic ships on the East River. Despite three massive setbacks: the 9/11 attacks, the Great Recession of 2008, and the floodwaters of hurricane Sandy, the museum is growing once again. With support from New York City and a dedicated group of staff, volunteers, members and friends, the Seaport Museum remains an educational and cultural gem in lower Manhattan.
The Seaport Museum's 50th anniversary will be marked throughout the year with the opening of new exhibitions, including Millions: Migrants and Millionaires aboard the Great Liners, 1900-1914 (opening June 2017), artistic and musical performances, lectures and book talks, walking tours, and a formal 50th anniversary cocktail reception aboard the 1885 ship Wavertree in September.
Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 2016-17 season with a performance by The Golden Dragon Acrobats on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 3pm. The Golden Dragon Acrobats hail from Cangzhou, Hebei province, in the People's Republic of China and have toured the United States continuously since 1978. The company's members are athletes, actors and artists who have studied and trained for their crafts since early childhood. The group averages 200 performances annually and has toured through all 50 states and to over 65 countries across the world. In 2005, their Broadway debut and seven-week run at the New Victory Theater earned two prestigious New York Drama Desk Awards nominations (for Best Choreography and Most Unique Theatrical Experience). The troupe returned to the Broadway venue for the holiday 2014 season, making them the ONLY acrobatic troupe from China chosen to perform twice at this prestigious venue.

Delightfully whimsical, this new full-length production springs from the imagination of American Ballet Theatre Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky and pop surrealist Mark Ryden. Based on the 1924 Viennese ballet Schlagobers (Whipped Cream) with music by Richard Strauss, Whipped Cream follows a young boy who overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop and falls into a delirium.

A huge hit when it premiered in New York in 1903, Victor Herbert's Babes in Toyland hasn't seen a major revival in New York City in over 85 years. Full of glorious melodies, Babes in Toyland tells a story that is both amusing and scary: villainous Uncle Barnaby plots the deaths of his young niece and nephew, Alan and Jane, in order to gain their inheritance. After many twists and turns, the siblings, with the help of several Mother Goose characters, thwart his efforts and bring happiness back to Toyland. MasterVoices will present the original score in its full orchestration, including beloved songs "Toyland", "March of the Toys", and "I Can't Do the Sum", giving the audience a rare chance to experience this musical extravaganza afresh.

The Uptown/Downtown/Dance program will include an as-yet-untitled World Premiere from Martin Lawrance and the World Premiere of Painted Within by Zhong-Jing Fang, as well as a restaging of former NYTB resident choreographer Edward Henkel's ReVision, created in 1986, with music by Edvard Grieg, Holberg Suite op. 40 (1884). A 2013 NYTB commission, Short Memory by Pam Tanowitz, is set to live music by Lou Harrison and Henry Cowell and helps set up Ms. Tanowitz's brilliant use of stage space. The evenings include two more pieces by Ms. Tanowtiz: Light Moving, set to music by David Lang, and Double Andante, a 13-minute ballet for ten dancers set to the Andante movement of Beethoven's Sonata in D Major #15, which will be played live on piano two times at different tempos. celebrates its
50th Anniversary
The South Street Seaport Museum, situated in the original port that built New York into the city it is today, will celebrate fifty years this year! The Seaport Museum invites the city to join in the celebration of this important milestone, which will be recognized over an entire year (April 2017-April 2018) of special programming and exhibitions.
The Museum will kick off this year of celebration with a special event onSaturday, April 29, 2017 from 11am to 5pm. This family-friendly event will include free admission to all of the Museum's offerings within the historic seaport district, including tours of its current exhibitions Street of Ships: The Port and Its People, The Original Gus Wagner. The Maritime Roots of Modern Tattoo, and The Architecture of Trade: Schermerhorn Row and the Seaport; tours of the historic ships Ambrose and Wavertree; printing demonstrations at the Bowne print shops at 209-211 Water Street; and fun family activities and music on Pier 16. The 50th anniversary year will be inaugurated with a special bell-ringing ceremony aboard the lightship Ambrose with special guest New York City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer ringing Ambrose's 110 year old bronze bell at 1:00pm. Honored guests will also include Council Member Margaret Chin, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Tom Finkelpearl, and the trustees, members, friends, and volunteers of the South Street Seaport Museum.
The lightship Ambrose, a floating lighthouse, stood watch at the front door to New York Harbor during the greatest period of immigration in US history. She was a critical aid to navigation, helping cargo and passenger ships to safely enter New York, but she had another vital role as well. She was the first thing an immigrant would see as they entered New York Harbor, long before the buildings and piers on the waterfront, long before the Manhattan skyline, and long before the lighted torch of Lady Liberty; Ambrose served as the first beacon of liberty to an arriving soon-to-be American. The Seaport Museum celebrates the immigration that built New York and the United States by ringing the bell of Ambrose, the lightship of liberty, in loud and clear announcement of New York's fundamental value of tolerance.
April 2017 marks fifty years since the Museum received its charter from the New York State Department of Education Board of Regents. Over that fifty years the Museum has grown dramatically, collecting artifacts and works of art documenting the rise of New York as a port city.; developing and implementing innovative and award-winning programming; mounting exhibitions; and preserving a fleet of historic ships on the East River. Despite three massive setbacks: the 9/11 attacks, the Great Recession of 2008, and the floodwaters of hurricane Sandy, the museum is growing once again. With support from New York City and a dedicated group of staff, volunteers, members and friends, the Seaport Museum remains an educational and cultural gem in lower Manhattan.
The Seaport Museum's 50th anniversary will be marked throughout the year with the opening of new exhibitions, including Millions: Migrants and Millionaires aboard the Great Liners, 1900-1914 (opening June 2017), artistic and musical performances, lectures and book talks, walking tours, and a formal 50th anniversary cocktail reception aboard the 1885 ship Wavertree in September.

The Golden Dragon Acrobats hail from Cangzhou, Hebei province, in the People's Republic of China and have toured the United States continuously since 1978. The company's members are athletes, actors and artists who have studied and trained for their crafts since early childhood. The group averages 200 performances annually and has toured through all 50 states and to over 65 countries across the world. In 2005, their Broadway debut and seven-week run at the New Victory Theater earned two prestigious New York Drama Desk Awards nominations (for Best Choreography and Most Unique Theatrical Experience). The troupe returned to the Broadway venue for the holiday 2014 season, making them the ONLY acrobatic troupe from China chosen to perform twice at this prestigious venue.

On Sunday and Monday, April 30 and May 1, 2017 at 7:30pm, Works & Process at the Guggenheim presents performance highlights and discussion on American Ballet Theatre's newest production, Whipped Cream by Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky in collaboration with pop surrealist Mark Ryden. Ratmansky and moderator John Meehan will discuss the new work and ABT dancers will perform excerpts prior to the New York premiere.
Whipped Cream will have its New York premiere with American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House on May 22, 2017.
Delightfully whimsical, this new full-length production springs from the imagination of American Ballet Theatre Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky and pop surrealist Mark Ryden. Based on the 1924 Viennese ballet Schlagobers (Whipped Cream) with music by Richard Strauss, Whipped Cream follows a young boy who overindulges at a Viennese pastry shop and falls into a delirium.

Masterworks Broadway will release the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory digitally on Friday, June 2, 2017 and in-stores Friday, June 23, 2017. The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Interim Executive Director; David McCoy, Chairman of the Board), dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, announces the Off-Broadway premiere of the new musical Marry Harry, with book by Jennifer Robbins (Hudson River Blues) and music and lyrics by Dan Martin and Michael Biello (In My Body, The Cousins Grimm). Directed and choreographed by York favorite Bill Castellino (Cagney, Storyville), performances are set to begin Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. for a limited engagement through Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Opening night is set for Thursday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m.
Marry Harry will replace the previously announced musical Emma, which will move to the 2017-2018 season. Casting and the rest of the creative team will be announced shortly.
Marry Harry will play the following performance schedule: Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., Thursdays at 2:30 p.m., Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:30 p.m.* & 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. (*Audience discussion follow the matinee performance.)

In addition to children's music superstar Laurie Berkner's previously scheduled 3:00 p.m. family show with her band on Saturday, April 29 at the McCarter Theatre Center, 91 University Place, Princeton, NJ, Laurie will give a special, solo "relaxed performance" at 11:00 a.m. on the same day.
Especially for this relaxed performance, Laurie Berkner will perform solo in an environment that has been adapted to provide a welcoming and judgment-free atmosphere for individuals with autism, learning differences, or other sensory and communication needs, so that they and their families may enjoy Laurie's live performance together.
In addition, professional staff will be on hand to assist parents and caregivers, a family restroom will be available, and there will be designated activity and relaxation areas in the lobby.
The McCarter Theatre Center has presented four relaxed performances in the past, including productions of Into the Woods, White Snake, Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, and last season’s Muppet Sing-A-Long Movie.
A pioneer in children's music over the last twenty years, the legendary Laurie Berkner will bring such well-loved hits as "Bumblebee (Buzz Buzz)," "Victor Vito," "We Are The Dinosaurs," and "Pig on Her Head" to this relaxed performance, along with songs like "Bicycle," "Bubbles," and "I've Got So Much To Give" from her new album, Superhero. Laurie will showcase many fan favorites, including an array of tunes that encourage kids and grownups alike to get up and dance. Kids should plan to bring their dancing shoes and a stuffed animal (for their heads).
At her solo shows, in addition to familiar hits, Laurie Berkner performs songs that don't always fit with a full-band performance: tunes with simpler arrangements, hand motions, and a cappella singing, like "Bottle Caps," "One Seed," "Telephone," and "Drive My Car."
To give everyone a chance to catch their breath between high-energy moments, the show will include quieter interludes, with songs such as Laurie's classic "Moon Moon Moon."
A former preschool music teacher by day and indie rocker by night, Laurie Berkner started selling her music nearly two decades ago out of her living room on her own label, Two Tomatoes Records. Time Magazine lauded Laurie as "a kind of sippy-cup Sheryl Crow ...
