They have an area where you stop and get off. There is a store and some reptiles. Trainers bring animals for people to get a closer look at and even pet them. We saw a snake, a bird, a bearded dragon, a guinea pig, and a turtle.
You could also feed a giraffe there, but that cost extra. Best of all when we went they had a baby lion cub named Stubs. She was so cute. Stubs was my favorite animal in the whole safari.
Aside from Stubs, I really liked the giraffes. I love giraffes.
The safari is one of my favorite things at Great Adventure. Seeing the animals up close and petting them is my favorite part of the safari. I liked that part better than when you could go through the safari in your own car. Otherwise, it isn't any better or worse than before. Either way, it is a lot of fun.
Mom -. There is a lot to like about Great Adventure's Safari Off-Road Adventure. Previously, you had to pay extra for the Safari, They charged per person and not per carload so it could be quite expensive. However, the Safari is considered part of the amusement park now, and you don't have to pay extra to visit.
It is also nice now that you don't have to go outside of the amusement park to go on the Safari. You board the open-air Safari vehicle inside the park and go into the Safari. I also love Camp Aventura where you can get off and see animals up close and even pet some.
Some things are not as nice about the Safari Off-Road Adventure. The ride isn't comfortable, it's very bumpy. It was more comfortable previously riding through the Safari in your own car.
Also, it can be hard to see at times especially if you are in the middle of the row of seats or at the opposite end from the animal or animals you are looking at. Plus, the waiting time to get on the ride can be quite long, and the line may close earlier than the scheduled 5:00 PM park closing time if it gets too long.
Even though the ride is not as new as when it first arrived prepandemic, it's likely to remain popular. Now that the Safari is included as part of the amusement park even those who wouldn't have bothered with it before appreciate it and take advantage of it. It is more convenient now.
I liked going through the Safari in our own car. Except for Camp Aventura, I actually felt closer to the animals then. We were closer to the ground then so that felt nearer to the animals.
It was also nicer to experience the Safari privately with only my family instead of with a group of strangers. However, what I miss most about the old Safari are the monkeys. I miss when they used to be allowed to roam free and would go around climbing on people's cars sometimes even stealing things from them. They were hilarious and the highlight of the Safari. It was bad enough when they put the monkeys behind fences although I understood why they did. Now, that the monkeys are not on display, something vital feels missing when you visit the Safari. In fact, that is how I think about the Safari Off-Road Adventure on the whole, it is nice, but something is missing.

* This post was originally prepared pre-pandemic so some things may have changed. Baby lion, Stubs, is now fully grown, and we are unsure if she remains at the park.
