The Brief Life and Mysterious Death of Boris III, King of Bulgaria is an incredibly moving show about how the King and the people of Bulgaria were able to save all of the country's Jews during World War II. This show really takes your emotions on a rollercoaster ride. It's happy, sad, and even funny and so much more. There is actually quite a lot of humor even though it deals with serious subject matter and can be quite solemn and heavy at times.
The incredible cast is led by Joseph Cullen in the role of Boris III who also co-wrote this extremely well-written show along with Sasha Wilson who plays the King's wife, Giovanna, among others. The entire cast effortlessly swirls in and out of various characters (except Cullen who only plays the king). They also sing songs and skillfully play a variety of instruments. The play is not a musical though but a play with music. This description often does not make sense, but it makes perfect sense in terms of this particular show.
The show is extremely timely considering how ramped up tensions are becoming between and against different groups of people these days and Jews in particular. It reminds us once again how one person can make a difference, together we can make even more of a difference and we must always have the courage to do what's right. You definitely don't want to miss this extremely soul-stirring and inspiring play.
