I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

8) Turing

Writers, Timothy L. Michuda and Benjamin Ward are set to release an EP for their brand new musical, entitled TURING. The EP is a groundbreaking concept album featuring six singles that narrate the life of Alan Turing, the renowned mathematician and wartime codebreaker. This new musical aims to shed light on Turing's extraordinary contributions to science while delving into the emotional complexities of being gay during an era when homosexuality was criminalized. The TURING EP promises to resonate with audiences through its rich storytelling and dynamic musical arrangements.

TURING encapsulates the true story of Alan Turing, a man caught between love and logic, who simply longs to be understood. The project features an impressive lineup of talent, including Vincent Jamal Hooper, known for his roles in The Lion King and Hamilton, James Olivas from the West End production of EVITA, and Mason Olshavsky, who is currently in Lost Boys on Broadway and has appeared in EPIC and Off-Broadway’s The Baker’s Wife. Their participation adds a layer of depth and talent to the project, enhancing the emotional resonance of Turing's narrative. Also joining the TURING EP are talented UK performers Jacob Fowler and Aiden Carson.

TURING unfolds through three pivotal stages of Alan Turing's life, exploring his relationships at ages sixteen, twenty-eight, and forty. With book, music, and lyrics crafted by Michuda and Ward, the narrative is presented in a non-linear fashion, skillfully weaving together moments of joy, discovery, love, and despair. This innovative approach allows listeners to engage with Turing's life on multiple levels, highlighting the profound impact of his work against the backdrop of a society that condemns you for being gay, no matter your status or contributions.

The TURING EP will be available on all major streaming platforms, making it accessible to a wide audience. The EP will be progressively released over the next few months.

15) NYC’s Legendary Miss Subways to Reunite at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, Celebrating

America’s Semi Quincentennial with the Quintessential Women of NYC

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 11 a.m., Ellen Hart will be joined by 11 additional former Miss Subways to ring in her 85th birthday in one grand celebration of legacy and local history.

Plus, “Marilyn Monroe” will sing Happy Birthday to Ellen!

From 1941 to 1976, the Miss Subways competition recognized the inspiring, everyday women of New York City. Launched by the John Robert Powers agency, the campaign took inspiration from WWII-era poster culture, when GIs had posters of pin-up models like Betty Grable. Their photographs were displayed on posters that lined subway cars throughout the city and were admired by millions of commuters. Spotlighting more than just beauty, Miss Subways highlighted ambition and possibility. The placards also displayed the women’s aspirations such as becoming actors, models, pilots and lawyers – many of whom went on to achieve these dreams.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 11 a.m., Ellen Hart, the owner of the iconic Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Times Square and Miss Subways 1959, invites guests to step back in time in the retro-themed diner for a reunion celebrating the legacy of New York City’s quintessential women.

Ellen’s Stardust Diner is located at 1650 Broadway at 51st Street.

17) South Street Seaport Museum

Announces

Parade of Ships:

From George Washington to Sail4th 250

July 1 | 6:30pm | 213 Water Street | Free

South Street Seaport Museum announces Parade of Ships: From George Washington to Sail4th 250 on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 6:30pm at 213 Water Street. Tickets are free and can be reserved here.

As New York prepares to welcome the tall ships of Sail4th 250 on the eve of America’s 250th anniversary, join the South Street Seaport Museum for a fascinating look at the city’s long tradition of maritime celebrations. Along with free admission to the landmark exhibition The Promise of Liberty: Words That Shaped a Nation—which traces the evolution of America’s founding ideals through rare defining documents and pivotal moments in history—this program explores more than two centuries of waterfront spectacles, civic celebrations, and historic commemorations that brought New Yorkers together to honor the people, events, and ideas that shaped the nation.

The program begins with historian Robert Snyder exploring the maritime dimensions of the American Revolution and the critical role New York Harbor played in the conflict. From the end of the Seven Years’ War to debates over trade, shipping, and New York’s relationship with the Caribbean, Snyder will examine how the city’s identity as an archipelago shaped both military strategy and daily life during the Revolution. His presentation will offer fresh insight into the war at sea and the ways New York’s waterways influenced the course of American history.

Then, moving a bit later into maritime history, Seaport Museum Director of Collections and Exhibitions Martina Caruso draws inspiration from her Collections Chronicles blog post Celebrating Sail, to share New York Harbor’s long history as a stage for grand maritime spectacles. This ranges from the ceremonial reception of President George Washington in 1789 to the internationally celebrated Operation Sail events of 1964, 1976, and 1986. The presentation highlights the Museum’s role in helping organize earlier OpSail celebrations and features remarkable photographs and film footage preserved in the Museum’s collections that capture these unforgettable moments on the waterfront.

The program will also feature a special screening of recently digitized archival footage from the 1976 Bicentennial OpSail, offering a rare glimpse into one of the largest maritime celebrations in New York’s history.

Following the presentations, the speakers will participate in a moderated discussion and audience Q&A exploring the enduring role of New York Harbor as a stage for national celebration, civic identity, and maritime heritage. Preregistration is encouraged. Walkups will be accommodated as possible. Before the program, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, attendees are invited to explore The Promise of Liberty and view an eye-catching engraving commemorating George Washington’s boat parade across New York Harbor to City Hall alongside extraordinary rare documents and foundational treasures that shaped the nation. Exhibition admission is included with your free event ticket.

19) FOUR BUCKS COUNTY CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS UNITE FOR FIRST-EVER MONTHLONG COLLABORATION CELEBRATING OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II

New “Oscar, James and Pearl” Initiative Includes Free Public Programs,
Passport and Countywide Partnership

Four of Bucks County’s leading cultural institutions have joined forces for the first time to create “Oscar, James and Pearl: Exploring the Legacy of South Pacific,” a monthlong celebration of the life, legacy and enduring Bucks County connections of legendary lyricist and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II and his peers, Pearl S. Buck and James A. Michener.

The collaboration brings together Bucks County Playhouse, the Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center, the Michener Art Museum and the Pearl S. Buck House in a coordinated effort to celebrate Hammerstein’s artistic achievements, humanitarian values and enduring Bucks County legacy, while exploring the connections among some of the region’s most influential cultural figures and non-profit organizations.

Inspired by Hammerstein’s July birthday and Bucks County Playhouse’s production of “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific,” running through July 26, the initiative will feature free public programs, special events and a new passport designed to encourage audiences to experience the county’s rich artistic and historical resources.

Throughout July, each participating organization will host a public program examining a different aspect of Hammerstein’s life, work and influence.

The series begins Wednesday, July 1, at 4:45 p.m. at Bucks County Playhouse with a post-performance Spotlight Series presentation, “Oscar Hammerstein: The Journey of Highland Farm,” presented by Julie Flack of the Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center. The talk will explore Hammerstein’s life, creative legacy, humanitarian spirit and years spent in Bucks County.

On Wednesday, July 8, at noon, the Michener Art Museum will present “Hirschfeld Draws Rodgers & Hammerstein,” featuring David Leopold of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation. The Oscar Hammerstein Museum and Theatre Education Center will host a special musical evening Wednesday, July 15, at 7 p.m., featuring vocalist Nathaniel Hackmann, who has headlined acclaimed recordings of Rodgers & Hammerstein classics for Chandos Records, celebrating Hammerstein's work and legacy.

The month concludes Wednesday, July 29, at 5 p.m. at the Pearl S. Buck House with “Taking Action Through Storytelling: Pearl S. Buck and Oscar Hammerstein.” The program will explore how two of Bucks County’s most influential cultural figures used storytelling, literature and the arts to promote understanding, compassion and social change.

All “July with Oscar” programs are offered free of charge and are open to the public. The public may register for individual or all events. Advance registration is required and may be completed through BucksCountyPlayhouse.org.
