I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Where-To-Go Wednesday: Plymouth Church

What:
Plymouth Church

Where: 57 Orange St.
            Brooklyn, NY

Who: All ages

Plymouth Church in Brooklyn, New York is more than just a House of Worship. It is a fascinating location with quite a storied history. For one thing, renowned clergyman, social reformer, and preacher,  Henry Ward Beecher preached here. Among Ward Beecher's accomplishments was holding a reverse slave auction to buy back the freedom of a young girl. The church played another important role in the fight against slavery as well. It was a stop on the underground railroad.

At one time or another, many famous figures have visited the church and/or attended a service here. Baseball executive, Branch Rickey,  came here to meditate on whether or not to integrate baseball by offering a contract to Jackie Robinson. Martin Luther King Jr. made his "American Dream" speech here prior to his more famous "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington. Even President Abraham Lincoln visited Plymouth Church, and when you attend a tour here you can sit in the very same pew he sat in.

This is all just a small sampling of the significance of this historic venue. There is so much more to learn by making a visit of your own. You don't even have to be of the same religion as the members of the church or religious at all to attend a tour. Tours focus mostly on  the history of the location, and therefore anyone can enjoy them.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
