I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Theater Thursday - Broadway Theatre Archive on Amazon

If you are looking for a legitimate way to accumulate a collection of older plays, try the Broadway Theatre Archive on Amazon. Here you can find numerous plays available for purchase on DVD. They range from such well-known plays as The Iceman Cometh, Fifth of July, and Much Ado About Nothing to lesser-known plays like The Shady Hill Kidnapping, When Hell Freezes Over I'll Skate, and Particular Men. The casts of these shows include a veritable who's who of great showbiz luminaries including John Houseman, Dianne Wiest, Richard Thomas, Frank Langella, Blythe Danner, Alfre Woodard, Kevin Kline, and Meryl Streep among others.

You will not really find any recent shows in the collection nor will you find many, if any, musicals. If you are looking for those things, you may want to look somewhere else. However, if you want to start a collection of Broadway plays or build up one that you already have, the Broadway Theatre Archive on Amazon is the perfect place for you.

Shows vary by price and availability but range from as low as a little under $10 to as high as between $50 and $100, and there is currently even one show, Eugene O'Neil's A Moon for the Misbegotten available for a whopping $134.99. Some of the current shows available at the time of this posting include

1) For Girl Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf starring Alfre Woodard, Lynn Whitfield, and the show's author, Ntozake Shange. This show is scheduled to be revived on Broadway this season.

2) Stud's Terkel's Working starring among others Rita Moreno, James Taylor, Barry Bostwick, and Patti Labelle. This show which includes music by Stephen Schwartz, James Taylor, and Mary Rodgers among others most recently received a limited run revival as part of City Center Encores, Encores Off-Center Summer season a few years back.

3) June Moon starring Susan Sarandon, Kevin McCarthy, and Jack Cassidy but notable for a rare acting appearance by the late legendary composer, Stephen Sondheim.

4) The Skin of Our Teeth starring Blair Brown, another show soon to be revived on Broadway.

and more including Hamlet starring Kevin Kline, The Year of the Dragon starring George Takei, and The Time of Your Life starring Patti Lupone.
