Books: Finding Home
Today we are recommending Finding Home by Kate Field. After the death of her employer, Mim finds herself unemployed and homeless. Without any family, she literally has no place to go. After a chance encounter with an elderly couple, Bill and Bea, they take her into their home and their family. Even though the whole family is very accepting of her especially their son, Corin, Mim knows that she is not really part of their family or even part of their world and she doesn't want to overstay her welcome especially when a person connected to her past arrives. This is a truly beautiful story about found family. The characters in this book are so good and so loving and so accepting of each other that it will make you want to cry happy tears almost every moment. This is not to say that they are no unlikeable characters in the book or that nothing ever goes wrong or there aren't any misunderstandings or anything because obviously, the book wouldn't be interested without any of that. Some parts of the plot are extremely predictable, and if you are a regular reader of this type of book you can see the ending coming from the beginning. However, that doesn't make the joy of it any less sweet or the book overall, any less of a satisfying read.
Movies - Dolphin Island
Today we are recommending Dolphin Island. The basic plot of this family-friendly story which revolves around grandparents fighting over custody of their granddaughter is not the most original. There have been numerous films with similar plots. However, this story which takes place in an animal sanctuary does have enough originality to keep it interesting including a smart and talented dolphin and a gorgeous island setting. The characters are quirky and fun too. Although you will know how things will end up long before you get to the end of the movie, there are some surprises along the way. Besides, sometimes it's nice when things end up how you expect them to, and in this case, the predictability definitely doesn't make the movie any less enjoyable.
And that's our view.
Tune in tomorrow for a Where-To-Go Wednesday.
