I started this blog with one daughter, kept it up with the other, to spend time together doing something we enjoyed.
However, things change and people evolve. My daughters are older, busier, and not as interested in writing.
From now on this blog will be mostly mom with occasional contributions from my daughters and maybe even my husband.
Nothing else will change. We'll still focus on sharing fun places to go, fun things to do, and more, and we would  still love to hear your views too

Saturday Special - Back to the Future Day

We received complimentary tickets to Back to the Future Part II for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Back to the Future Day

Where: Fathom Events

When: This event took place on October 21, 2024

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the release of the 2nd film in the Back to the Future trilogy.  Fathom Events celebrated the film on this year's Back to the Future Day by re-releasing it to movie theaters for two nights only.

Back to the Future Day was, in fact, inspired by the film as it is the date in the future that Mary McFly travels to in the movie. The event was not quite as exciting as last year when the original film was re-released in movie theaters. That event also included fun trivia and a peek at videos of various people auditioning for the film. Nevertheless, it was still great to have the opportunity to see the movie on the big screen again or for the first time if you missed it or are too young to have seen it upon its original release or during any subsequent releases.

Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the original Back to the Future's release. We can't wait to see what they come up with for Back to the Future Day then!

And that's our view. To find out about upcoming Fathom Events and/or to purchase tickets, visit www.fathomevents.com

Tune in tomorrow for this week's Sunday Scoop.

Theater Thursday - Honeyland

We received complimentary tickets to Honeyland for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Honeyland

Where: Triad Theatre
              158 W. 72nd St.
              New York,, NY

Who: Recommended for Ages 12 and Up

When: Through November 2, 2024

Honeyland is purported to be a coming-of-age story set against the background of the turbulent 1960s. There is not much of a story, however,  It is mostly more of a song cycle with just about every possible 60s-related cliche you can throw in. Topics covered include the Vietnam War, the fear of nuclear annihilation, Nixon's election, pot smoking, and more.

The songs are fine, some are nicer than others but they are mostly not too memorable Some of them are a little too perky and sound like they are straight out of a children's morning TV show especially a song that is literally called "When I Grow Up."  Other songs are much darker and/or otherwise inappropriate for children. Even  "When I Grow Up" takes a dark turn toward the end of the song making it not actually suitable for children as well.

Yet, if you take the show for what it is more of a song cycle, you can still enjoy it. The singing voices are lovely. There are some gorgeous harmonies as well. So just go and listen to the beautiful singing and don't think about the rest of it.

Where-To-Go Wednesday - Like a Local Tours Chelsea Market, High Line, & Hudson Yards Food & History Tour

We were given a complimentary Chelsea Market, High Line, & Hudson Yards Food & History Tour for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own.

What: Like a Local Tours
Chelsea Market, High Line, & Hudson Yards Food & History Tour

Where: Tour Start at 75th 9th Ave.
                                   New York, NY

Who: All ages

Most food tastings on the Chelsea Market, High Line, & Hudson Yards Foods & History Tour occur within the Market. You'll get to sample an array of delicious delectables including pizza, tacos, and donuts. You'll also learn the market's history and that of the locations you visit as you travel around. While the savory portion of the tour will conclude with a dumpling and a thirst-quenching drink at Market 57, there's still plenty more to experience on this informative tour.

Next, you'll walk the High Line, an elevated park that used to be a train line,  just about from one end to the other. There is plenty of natural beauty to be found here in addition to rotating works of art, interesting buildings, and more. You'll finish up in Hudson Yards home of the relatively new Shed theater which is located on wheels so it can be moved around as well as the Vessel, a huge climbing structure recently reopened to visitors, and more. You'll definitely get your fill of food, exercise, and fun facts on this exciting tour!

Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
