This picture book written by two teenagers is already an Amazon bestseller. Finding Messi: The Miracle Cat From Kyiv tells the true story of 13-year old Iryna and her cat, Messi. When Ukraine was attacked, Iryna and her mother had to abruptly leave everything behind in Kyiv, including their beloved pet. Messi goes missing, and Iryna rallies the community to help her find her cat. The book gently explains the impact of war on families, and young readers will better understand the experiences of children displaced by war. Trevor, now 17 years old, chose to skip his family Spring Break in Florida in March of 2022 and instead traveled with his father and other volunteers from their synagogue to Poland and Ukraine. The group from Temple Emanu-El carried over 9,000 pounds of humanitarian supplies to help women and children who were fleeing from war and distributed them at the Poland-Ukraine border. Together they brought over 4,000 diapers and other personal essentials to aid the impacted families. After coming back home from his humanitarian mission in Poland and Ukraine, Trevor couldn't stop thinking about Iryna's story about Messi the cat. Her dramatic story inspired him to write a children's book. Trevor wanted to help kids better understand what it's like to grow up in a war crisis and to teach them how to empathize with those who are experiencing it. All proceeds from this book will be donated to charities that support victims of the Ukraine War. This will help to make a positive impact and provide aid to those in need. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting. Traditionally, people celebrate the holiday by gathering with family and friends, exchanging gifts, and greeting each other. At Brooklyn Children’s Museum, visitors will learn the story of Eid al-Fitr, enjoy hands-on activities, and celebrate cultural traditions from across the Muslim world with New York City Council Member Shahana Hanif and an array of cultural partners, artists, and performers.
Visitors of all ages will be experience the intricate rhythmic patterns of Indian classical dance with the Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts, discover the story of Eid at an engaging puppet show presented by The Culture Tree, hear Turkish, Kurdish, and Islamic classical music performed by the Wahab Orchestra, and learn Sufi-inspired songs at an interactive drumming circle led by Brother Mustafa.

14) NJPAC and Rutgers University–Newark jointly launch Teaching Artist Certificate program First educational partnership between a performing arts center and research university New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and Rutgers University–Newark School of Arts and Sciences (SASN) announce a new Teaching Artist certificate program to provide practical skills and an understanding of sound business practices for teaching artists to apply in educational, community, healthcare and corporate settings. This program marks the first educational partnership between a performing arts center and research university. The curriculum is facilitated by several faculty from RU-N’s Urban Education Department and Arts, Culture & Media Department as well as nationally-recognized experts in the field including author and teaching artist Eric Booth. At NJPAC, the certificate is part of the suite of programs of the Colton Institute for Training and Research in the Arts which includes an expansion of professional development for teaching artists. The inaugural semester of the program is an eight-week summer intensive that will run from June 10 – August 2, 2024. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 10AM – 4PM on the campuses of Rutgers University–Newark and NJPAC’s Center for Arts Education. The fee for the program is $3,500. Music Director Leon Botstein leads The Orchestra Now in this season’s final installment of TŌN’s popular Sight & Sound series at The Metropolitan Museum of Art with a program titled William Grant Still & the Harlem Renaissance on Sunday, April 14, 2024. The program offers a performance of William Grant Still’s Symphony No. 2, Song of a New Race, written in 1937 when the Harlem Renaissance era was embracing the literary, musical, and visual arts of Black America.
Still was one of the foremost classical composers of the time, with a number of impressive firsts to his credit. Among them, he was the first African American to conduct a professional American symphony orchestra (Los Angeles Philharmonic, 1936), and the first to have an opera produced by a major U.S. opera company (Troubled Island, New York City Opera, 1949). His symphonic trilogy, tracing African American history from Africa to 20th-century America, is capped by his Symphony No. 2, a joyful and lyrical piece that fuses the European classical symphony with African American sensibility.

With the rise of new, urban Black communities both in New York City and abroad, the Harlem Renaissance became the first African American-led movement of international modern art. With that art came developments in visual art, poetry, jazz, and concert music. William Grant Still was in the spotlight alongside such esteemed luminaries as writer Langston Hughes and painter Aaron Douglas. Already established as a Hollywood arranger, Still also composed nearly 200 classical works, including five symphonies, four ballets, and nine operas. He was championed by conductors like Leopold Stokowski, who conducted the premiere of Still’s four-movement Symphony No. 2, Song of a New Race with The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1937.
The exhibition The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism will be on view at The Met Fifth Avenue February 25–July 28, 2024 in The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Gallery for Special Exhibitions.

RUSH AND LOTTERY POLICIES ANNOUNCED
AHEAD OF HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FIRST PERFORMANCE
A limited number of $35 general rush tickets will be available in-person at the Golden Theatre (252 W 45th St) box office on the day of each performance, on a first come, first served basis. There is a maximum of two rush tickets per person.
Digital rush will be available starting at 11:00AM ET on the day of each performance and will end 30 minutes before the performance. Tickets will be $30 each, are subject to availability, and are limited to two digital rush tickets per person.
Entries for the Stereophonic digital lottery will open at 12:00AM ET two days before each performance and will end at 3:00PM the same day. Winners are drawn the day before the performance at 10:00am and 3:00pm and will be notified via email. Tickets will be $40 each and are limited to two digital lottery tickets per person.

Two River Theater's world premiere comedy, A Thousand Maids, by Two River favorite Tony Meneses (The Hombres, Guadalupe in the Guest Room), directed by Drama League Director's Project Fellow and recipient of the Yale 2019 Kauffman Memorial Prize, Aneesha Kudtarkar (Water by the Spoonful, Queen) began performances this weekend and wiill run through April 28, 2024 in the Marion Huber Theater.

Shakespeare may have begun to write his early works almost 500 years ago, but that does not mean we cannot relate to his storytelling in our 21st century classrooms. In this workshop led by Garden State Equality’s Director of Education and Youth Development Justine Evyn Saliski, we will work through the 8-point story arc and gain knowledge on how we can amplify and uplift our students’ intersecting identities through the lens of both Shakespeare and social justice to reimagine tales of The Bard. Join us as we look at Shakespeare in a way that can not only relate to our students, but ourselves as well. While educators can gain Professional Development credit for attending, this discussion is free and open to the public.

COSTUME DESIGN 101 AND COSTUME SHOP TOUR
The work of a costume designer is central in A Thousand Maids, but what does that work entail in the off-stage world? Experienced costume professionals from Two River Theater's staff will share the reality of the costume creation process: how designers develop their ideas, how they collaborate with the costume shop to make those ideas a reality, and how it all comes together to create the magic audiences see on stage! Attendees will also be able to tour Two River's costume shop and costume storage areas.

Producers Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Brian Anthony Moreland, Ambassador Theatre Group, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker announced a $45 digital lottery powered by Broadway Direct and $45 in-person rush tickets for highly-anticipated revival of The Wiz, which began previews on Friday, March 29 at the Marquis Theatre.
At 10 AM ET, $45 rush tickets for The Wiz will are available in-person at the Marquis Theatre Box Office (210 W 46th St) each morning for that day’s performances. Patrons will be able to purchase up to two tickets per person. Tickets are subject to availability. Seat locations for this program vary and may be available in all sections of the theatre. Locations are determined each by the show’s management and assigned at the discretion of the Box Office at time of purchase.

In an abandoned New York City near the end of time, a small group of survivors gather for a seance in the ruined ballroom of the once mighty Grand Gotham Hotel. Here they encounter the ghost of the hotel’s most famous resident, Nikola Tesla, whose last years were spent in Room 3327. One by one, they join Tesla, acting out his dreams in a ritual circus of life, conveyed in a series of vignettes that mix elements of spectacle, absurdity, avant-garde film, blackout comedy, and musical theater.
A striking figure—tall, elegant in dress, and grandiloquent in speech—Tesla was a brilliant scientist and engineer whose view of the physical world was imbued with mystical spirituality. He once dined daily at the famous Delmonico’s, seated among the barons of Wall Street, who celebrated and profited mightily from his inventions. As his dreams of the future were thwarted by the powers of big money and government, he gradually retreated into a parallel world of his imagination, watching over the pigeons in Bryant Park, especially the one he said was his true love, “a creature of purest white, with silver traces on her wings.”
See the culmination of this new opera’s first development workshop, incubated in a Works & Process LaunchPAD residency at Bethany Arts Community. Members of the artistic team will discuss their creative process and highlights will be performed.

Ball, Kowroski, and Lovette illuminate their creative process in a discussion moderated by dancer and choreographer Emily Coates, a former member of New York City Ballet and currently Director of Dance Studies at Yale University.
