What: The Mad Mad World of Jonathan Adler
Where: Museum of Arts and Design
2 Columbus Circle
New York, NY
Who: Recommended for Ages 13 and Up
When: Through April 19, 2026
The Mad Mad World of Jonathan Adler is an exhibit curated by the artist himself for the Museum of Arts and Design. The exhibit includes not only his own work but also the works of other artists he admires whose pieces are in the museum's collection. They include Mary McFadden, Hans Cooper, John Prip, and, more especially, his muse, Howard Kottler. A whole section of the exhibit is devoted to the latter.
Other sections feature works of art highlighting animals, crafts, and more. There is even a section centered around works of erotica, so if this offends you or you don't want your young children exposed to works of this type, you might want to skip it or come with out them, depending on how you feel about it. There is also a section based on a particular material, specifically metal, rather than a specific theme
Much, if not all, of the artwork in the collection is quite whimsical and fun. These include works of art devoted to specific historical figures, those shaped like surprising objects, and more, including a delightful sculpture of the artist himself. Some are functional; others are just decorative. This is truly the kind of exhibit that even those who don't normally like art may enjoy and appreciate.
And that's our view. For more about this exhibit or to purchase tickets to visit, go to madmuseum.org/exhibition/mad-mad-world-jonathan-adler.
Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
