Theater Thursday - Little Rock

Mom's view: If you are like me and you know very little about the  Little Rock Nine and their integration of Little Rock Central High School in 1957, this show is really enlightening. If you think that once Federal troops were brought in to enforce integration, the school was integrated and that was that, think again. The problems of the Little Rock Nine by no means ended when their right to attend school was federally enforced. This show is very timely because in a lot of way race relations have gotten no better and in this very divisive time we are currently in race relations seem to be at a particular low. However, even though this can be a very gut wrenching show and at times make you ashamed to be white (if you are), it is not a heavy depressing show from start to finish. The show has a lot of humorous  and happy moments as well and even a number of uplifting song filled moments (although it is not strictly a musical). The actors all play numerous roles and none of them look as though they could actually be high school students except Shanice Williams, who played Dorothy in the live version of The Wiz on NBC a few years ago. Despit this, they are all very believable in their roles. The show is a loving tribute to the real Little Rock Nine and will give you new appreciate for what they went through not only for themselves but for those who came after them.
