reputation so far in our area. Of course, as
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said, "Into Each Life
Some Rain Must Fall." Unfortunately, sometimes
more than a little falls either figuratively or
quite literally.
Living through a war is
like being at the center of a fierce and
unrelenting storm. In the novel, The Secret History of Audrey
James, the characters live through the horrific
deluge of World War II. Audrey's best
friend, Ilise, is Jewish, although Audrey
herself is not. However, Audrey is determined to
do what she must to keep her friend alive and
safe through the war.
In a different timeline,
she tells her story to Kate, a woman who has
recently lived through her own rainstorm in this
gripping novel by Heather Marshall. For more
