David, A New Musical is the story of David, the King of Israel. The plot revolves around the allegedly dying King looking back on his life. The show's tone goes back and forth between total irreverence and deeply solemn and serious as if the trio of writers didn't know which way they wanted to go. The songs are split in tone as well. The more irreverent songs are mostly fun although there are some questionable, inappropriate, and even cringe-worthy lyrics and rhymes within the songs. One particular song is especially problematic. Although the song is sung by a daughter about her father, it could easily be mistaken for a song that a young woman might sing about her lover.

The performances are great, however. The voices even more so. Ethan Zeph as Young David is a particular stand out both for his acting and singing talents.  All in all, the talent of the performers is definitely the reason to see this show.
