Tick, Tick ...Boom! is late composer, Jonathan Larson's autobiographical musical. He played it as a solo show, but since his much too early death, it has been expanded into a three-person musical.  It details his inner and outer struggles to confirm his destiny as a composer. Of course, sadly, it doesn't end with his ultimate triumph because that occurred after his death.

Although the subject manner is mostly depressing, the story is told in an upbeat manner. It focuses on Larson's early unsuccessful efforts to make it as a composer. It also foreshadows the coming AIDS crisis. The songs, however, are mostly surprisingly upbeat and happy. They are quite catchy too. They remind us of Larson's promise as a composer and how much was lost when he died so tragically young.

In this production, Daniel Marconi is terrific in the role of Jonathan. He has the perfect energy for the part. His co-stars Cathryn Wake and John Yi are fine, but they just aren't up to the same level as Marconi. His performance and the musical legacy of Jonathan Larson as represented by the show's score are the reasons to see this show.
