The Gospel According to Heather is the story of a girl who finds out she is a messenger of God, and she has to navigate that at the same time as normal teenage life. It seems from the description of the show that it would have highly religious overtones. To some degree, it does. However, it does have a lot of comedy and treats its subject with a kind of irreverence that keeps it from being too heavy-handed. Unfortunately, the story itself is just not that interesting.

The songs, on the other hand, are quite engaging. They are upbeat and fun. The singing voices are good too especially that of Maya Lagerstam when she sings Wait. She has quite an impressive set of pipes.

Katey Sagal has quite a nice voice as well which is surprising if you've only seen her in TV shows like Married With Children and Sons of Anarchy and never heard her sing before. Her role in the show, however, seems kind of underwhelming and not as impressive as the audience acts like it is because they have seen her in a TV show. This is not to say that her acting is bad. It's more the writing. She is not given a lot to work with.

On the whole, the acting in the show is good. The actors do a great job with what they are given. It's just that what they are given is not that interesting.

One of the most interesting characters in the show is a conservative radio host who states directly what most conservatives are likely thinking but would never come out and say. He is the comic highlight of the show and the reason to see it along with the music.
