A) Beginning Performances

A Sherlock Carol

When a grown-up Tiny Tim asks Sherlock Holmes to investigate the peculiar death of Ebenezer Scrooge, the Great Detective must use his tools of deduction to get to the bottom of the crime. But it is a dark and treacherous Christmas Eve, and once again the holiday is haunted by the spirits of the past, present, and future.

Through 1/1/23

Hoagy Carmichae's Stardust Road

Hoagy Carmichael’s Stardust Road is a new musical journey that tells the story of six friends and the one man who brought them all together. The musical is told completely through the sophisticated music of Hoagy Carmichael. The seven friends weave a story of camaraderie and shifting relationships through four decades in America: the early years of ragtime, jazz and blues; the romance of New York in the 1930’s; the tumultuous and uncertain years of the World War II era; and the post-war Golden Age of Hollywood -- all while walking down Hoagy Carmichael’s Stardust Road.

The Theatre at St. Jeans
(150 East 76 th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues).

Darling Grenadine

When charismatic songwriter Harry falls for clever chorus girl Louise, all of Manhattan glitters with the blush of new love. But what happens when the sparkling fantasy begins to dissolve? Bubbling over with charm, wit, and whimsy, Darling Grenadine navigates the tension between romance and reality, light and dark, bitter and sweet. Featuring a vibrantly eclectic score and stirring book and lyrics by Daniel Zaitchik.

Two Jews, Walking

Two Jews, Talking takes us on a hilarious romp through time! Two one-act plays bring Lou and Bud together in the Biblical past, and Phil and Marty together in contemporary Long Island. They philosophize about women, sex, food, the divine, and destiny in this tale of companionship and friendship. The show’s humor evokes a sense of nostalgia for simpler times – when comedy was rooted in pure fun.

The Piano Lesson

The Piano Lesson is set in Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1936.  A brother and sister are locked in a war over the fate of a family heirloom: a piano carved with the faces of their ancestors. The Piano Lesson, wrote Frank Rich in The New York Times, “has its own spacious poetry, its own sharp angle on a nation's history, its own metaphorical idea of drama and its own palpable ghosts that roar right through the upstairs window of the household where the action unfolds.

Monday, November 21 The Origami Holiday Tree Opens

The delightfully decorated Origami Holiday Tree is opening to the public on Wednesday, November 21. The theme of this year’s 13-foot tree is Beautiful Bugs, featuring models inspired by the upcoming Susan and Peter J. Solomon Family Insectarium in the Museum’s new Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation. The Insectarium is the first Museum gallery in more than 50 years dedicated to the most diverse—and a critically important—group of animals on Earth. This season, intricate paper models of some of the world’s most amazing insects, including long-legged grasshoppers, brilliantly colored butterflies, and even the spotted lanternfly, an invasive species recently observed in increasing numbers in the New York area, will be showcased among the more than 1,000 origami pieces on view. Origami models of iconic Museum exhibits including the Blue Whale, Tyrannosaurus rex, and Titanosaur will also adorn the tree.

Tuesday, November 22, at 7 pm: Frontiers Lecture: Venus–Why We're Going Back

Venus shares many characteristics with Earth and is a proxy for an Earth-like planet, yet we know very little about it. In this Frontiers Lecture, Dr. Martha Gilmore, world-renowned expert on the geology of Venus, discusses the importance of this neighboring planet, her research using data from NASA’s Magellan mission to map the surface of Venus, and what we hope to learn from two upcoming NASA missions, VERITAS and DAVINCI+. Visit the Museum’s online calendar to purchase tickets to this on-site event in the Hayden Planetarium Space Theater.

4) Kelsey Theatre Presents
A Winnie the Pooh Christmas Tail

1200 Old Trenton Rd.
West Windsor, NJ

November 26 & 27 at 1pm & 4pm

Christopher Robin tells a story of a Christmas Eve very long ago (about last year) when Eeyore, the old gray donkey who lives by himself in the thistle corner of Hundred-Acre Wood, was absolutely miserable. It seems that he lost his tail and Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet got all of their friends and a search was organized. There is a great deal of fun and excitement, plus delightful songs, in the adventure that follows! Its theme, which concerns caring, sharing and the importance of cultivating friends, makes this a very special and enchanting musical suitable for any age.

Presented with Black Trans Femmes in the Arts Collective
A legend within the ballroom community, founder of the Kiki House of Juicy Couture, leader of The House of Balenciaga, and this year’s Latex Ball Avis Penda’vis Angel Award winner, Black trans femme choreographer Courtney Washington Balenciaga creates dances that are a representation of resiliency, and which foster community in under-resourced areas of Brooklyn. Her new Works & Process commission, ALL INCLUSIVE AND MORE fuses street dance, street jazz, ballroom, vogue, and hip-hop. Informed by her own experience as a queer teenager who found refuge from teasing in dance, the work conveys how her gender transition spurred transformative emotional, creative, and physical liberation. An expansion of ALL INCLUSIVE, which was commissioned in 2020 and performed in the Guggenheim’s rotunda as performances were reopening in New York on March 31, 2021, this latest work furthers her ambitions toward shaping a more inclusive, fair, representative, and colorful world.

In conjunction with the Guggenheim’s Member Mondays, this performance in the theater will continue into the rotunda for The Masterz Ball with music by DJ Byrell. All audience members are encouraged to participate in the ball, with categories including All Inclusive, Best Dressed, and Creative Expression.
