More Theater Monday - Desperate Measures

We were given free tickets to Desperate Measures for review purposes. Any and all opinons expressed here are our own.

What: Desperate Measures

Where: New World Stages
             340 W. 50th St.
             New York, NY

Who: Teens and Up

Me - Desperate Measures was a way less confusing, way more condensed version of Measure for Measure. It is also less boring, way funnier, and a lot more fun to watch. The plot was interesting. The characters were mostly likeable. They were all really amusing. I really liked the songs. They were really catchy. They stayed in my head after the show especaily one called "Just For You." I can't wait to get the CD when it comes out! The set was cool! It made it look like the old West. The costumes were nice. There were some really pretty wedding dresses. At a couple of  points in the show, they came into the audience. Once they were standing right in front of us. It was exciting because it felt like we were right in the middle of the action. The acting was spectacular! The singing was wonderful! I really loved this show!

Mom - Desperate Measures was a terrific show when it premiered at the York Theater this past fall. Now that it has reopened at New World Stage with most of the cast intact, it has not lost anything. It is still a delightfully entertaining show full of hysterical moments, amusing characters and great catchy songs that will actually stick in your head after you've left the theater. Even if you don't like Shakespeare (the show is based on his Measure for Measure), even if you don't like Westerns (the show is set in the old west), you will still enjoy this very funny show. It is not a good show for young children due to the subject matter but for anyone else who just wants to relax, have a good time, forget their troubles for a while, and have a good laugh, this show is a great choice. And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Tips for Tuesday.
