Where-To-Go Wednesday - Italian American Museum

What: Italian American Museum

Where: 155 Mulberry St.
             New York, NY

Who: Ages 5 and Up

Me & Mom - New York  City like many other cities has an Italian American Museum. The Italian American Museum in New York is a little museum devoted to Italian American history and Italian Americans' contributions to American history. The museum is not very big, but there are quite a lot of things to see. When you get there, there is a film which gives you a history of the museum. The museum includes objects that people would use in their every day life or their job like clothes, and a sewing machine. There are also objects related to famous Italian America's like pictures of Joe Di Maggio, Mario Lanza recordings and sheet music, and objects related to Frank Serpico, a former police officer known for blowing a whistle on police corruption in the late 1960s and early 1970s. There was also a shovel that was used to break ground for building the first New York City subway. The building used to be a bank so there was a bank vault and objects related to the bank including old Italian money. There is also a second room in the museum that has changing art exhibits. The museum is not a bad place to take children because it is not that big, and there are some  objects that children might enjoy viewing like  a musical instrument, an organ grinding machine and/or pictures of famous baseball players. All in all, it is a really cute little museum that is quick to go through. There is no set fee for visiting the museum, a donation in the amount of your choosing is requested to help cover the costs of running the museum.

And that's our view. Tune in tomorrow for Theater Thursday.
