Saturday Special - Working in the Theater: An Interview with Jessica Genick, Producer of Ten Broadway Shows and Show-Score Experience Manager

Today marks the first post in our new  Working in the Theater series. This series in which  we will interview people who work in different theater related jobs will run periodically on Saturdays. Today we will be interviewing Jessica Genick. Jessica is producer as well as the Experience Coordinator for Show-Score.

How would you define a producer's job? 

Jessica defines a producer's job as raising money, building relationships with creative teams and theater owners, and finding property (to produce).

What made you decide to become a producer?

Jessica was an actor and a theater arts educator. Her father is producer, Jerry Frankel. She consulted him and did work for him, and he told her that she should just come work for him.

What  are some of the shows you have produced and what was the first show you produced?

The first show Jessica produced was Grace. She has also produced the most recent revivial of Fiddler on the Roof, China Girl and Wolf Hall Parts One and Two among other shows.

Are you working on any upcoming projects now?

Jessica is currently the Experience Coordinator for Show-Score. However, she still consults with and works with her father, and she is always looking for new projects

What work do you do in your role as the Experience Coordinator for Show-Score?

She creates programming including salons (discussions) and tours.

What is the best thing about being a producer?

She finds it very exciting to have the opportunity to work with people at the top of their game in so many fields especially in New York City.

What is the worst thing about being a producer?

She doesn't like that producing can be a very risky business, and sometimes, it just doesn't work.

Who are some other producers you admire and have learned from?

Jerry Frankel, Debby Bisno and Roberta Pereira.
