Where-To-Go Wednesday - The Beast and Up to You

We were given tickets for a ride on The Beast for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own based on our experience.

What: The Beast

Where: Pier 93
             42nd St. and 12th
              New York, New York

Who: Anyone 40 inches or taller and able to sit in his or her own seat

Mom's view: The Beast is a thrilling 30 minute speedboat ride. If you don't like thrill rides, you may still like The Beast. It is not like a roller coaster. It is a fairly smooth ride. It is also surprisingly not as bumpy as you would think.  I often get motion sickness headaches just from stop and go traffic, and I did not feel sick at all while riding The Beast. However, it is really fast so if you do not like to go fast, you will not like this ride. It is also very windy so if you do not like the wind blowing in your face, you probably won't like The Beast. Because of the wind, we recommend bringing a jacket even in the middle of the summer because it gets surprisingly cold when you're speeding along the water. There is more to The Beast than just a fun fast ride. It is also a site-seeing cruise. The views of New York City from on-board The Beast are amazing. You cannot possibly get closer to The Statue of Liberty without actually stepping out on the island. Anyone can ride The Beast except children under 40 inches tall and/or  anyone who cannot sit in his or her own seat. We were given free tickets to Up to You for review purposes. Any and all opinions expressed here are our own based on our experience.

What: Up to You

Where: TADA! Youth Theatre
             15 W. 28th St.
             New York, NY

When: Now through May 22, 2016

Who: All ages
Mom's view: Up to You is musical with an important message. It takes place in a high school and tackles the issue of bullying. However, it does so through an entertaining show with fun songs.  Even though in reality it is not as easy to solve the problem of bullying as it is in the show, anything that shines a light on the subject and sparks a discussion is important. It is nice to know that the TADA! troop of child actors is able to take on shows that deal with serious issues and do as well with them as they do with lighter fluffier shows. It is important to note that just because the show is about a more serious subject than many TADA! shows does not mean that it is all heavy heavy drama. There are plenty of light entertaining moments in the show as well. If your child is young and especially sensitive and it would upset them to see kids being mean to other kids, you might want to skip this show. Otherwise, the shows powerful message that bullying is not okay and you can't just be a bystander either, but you have to stand up for what is right makes it a must-see for any child. Besides, the opportunity to see the talented kids from TADA!  Youth Theater performing on stage is always an opportunity worth taking.
