What: J. Pierpont Morgan Study
Where: Morgan Library & Museum
225 Madison Ave.
New York, NY
Who: All ages
The J. Pierpont Morgan Study, located within the Morgan Library & Museum, has been restored to its condition during Morgan's time, including both artwork and furnishings. The room was used as both a private refuge and a place for business and cultural meetings. It also houses Morgan's rare book collection and some of the artistic treasures he collected.
Some of the furnishings, including Morgan's desk, are original. Others have been restored or replaced out of necessity. The majority of the artwork in the room was originally obtained by Morgan, with a few exceptions.
The collection includes, among other things, numerous paintings, sculptures, and decorative plates. There are also portraits of J. Pierpont Morgan and his son. Artists represented in the collection include Marco Bello, Antonio Rossellino, Giorgio di Gubbio, and more. To learn more about the art as you walk around the space or at your leisure, see the Bloomberg Connects app.
