Douriean Fletcher is a jewelry designer who was handpicked by costume designer Ruth E Carter to work on various TV shows and movies, including the 2016 Roots mini series, Coming 2 America, and Black Panther and its sequel. Her work reflects her cultural and historical heritage as a Black woman, and it is centered in the Afrofuturism movement, which not only celebrates Black history and culture but imagines a better, more equal future. Through her work, she tells the story of Black identity throughout history,
Fletcher's work is currently the focus of an exhibit at New York City's Museum of Arts and Design. The central part of the exhibit is a display of some of the jewelry she created for the Black Panther films, along with some of Carter's costumes. Some of her other pieces are also on display, including her Messengers Collection. There is also a section devoted to the artist's childhood, which includes pictures and her childhood doll as well as a recreation of her New Orlean's studio
