1) A Kidman Carol

Get into the spirit of the season ... Awards Season, that is, with this irreverent, blistering and truly bananas take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. On Oscars Eve 2023, brilliant actress and Hollywood Scrooge Cate Blanchett (Tár Humbug!) is visited by three different spirits of Nicole Kidman in order to learn the true meaning of Awards Season. Will she not only save her own soul but also cinema as a human art form? A Kidman Carol is a vicious, chaotic farce that sends up Tár, The Hours, Carol, The Lord of The Rings, The Undoing, To Die For, The Others, Notes on a Scandal, Blue Jasmine, Big Little Lies, and so much more from the Kidman/Blanchett canon. Ohr nohr!

2) Amahl and the Night Visitors

In the desert lands of the first century, a young boy catches the sight of a giant star. Later that evening, as his mother prays for the family’s future, they are visited by three wondrous kings whose unexpected arrival opens the way for Amahl’s heartfelt generosity to shine as brightly as the star itself. This is the tale of how a simple gift can become a miracle that transforms the world.

3) Birth + Carnage

Birth + Carnage is a dance work fusing choreography, astrophysics, and video installation. Born from the collaboration between choreographer Marla Phelan and astrophysicist Dr. Blakesley Burkhart, the piece is inspired by the astrophysical phenomenon of stellar birth as both visceral metaphor and choreographic framework.

4) The Heat Is On

With wit, passion, and sizzling stage presence, Lemley embodies the legendary Rita Hayworth — the woman who lit up Hollywood’s Golden Era. Through dazzling performances of 20 timeless songs, she reveals the real Rita behind the icon: a woman of strength, sensuality, and vulnerability who defined glamour and resilience for generations

12/21, 1/10, 2/19, 3/18

5) Night Stories

When the sun sets, forgotten figures from the Holocaust emerge to invade the writer’s dreams and even assault his waking moments, settling old scores and seeking absolution as they describe their destruction and share the terrible secrets of their survival, all in Sutzkever’s haunting Yiddish with English supertitles. In Where the Stars Spend the Night, a survivor from the swamps begs the writer to forgive her for eating his soul. In A Child’s Hands, from the coldest of clues - handprints on a windowpane - the poet deduces the last moments of an unknown child and his grandmother. Lupus, an old ghetto cyanide dealer, materializes from a mirror, demanding that the writer “unalive” him. (Yes, Sutzkever created the word 50 years before TikTok.) And concluding the evening with a spirit of grace, Portrait in Blue Sweater, a Chanukah story, is the true account of a lost portrait of the poet painted by a murdered artist which reappears to the surprise of everyone but Marc Chagall. NIGHT STORIES is additionally unique in its being the only run of a Yiddish language production in New York’s current season.

Wild Project (195 E. 3rd St.)
12/18 - 1/11

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.congressforjewishculture.org.

6) Nomads

Reaching deep into the heart and soul of the Middle East and Eastern Europe, ZaZa and Gabriel illuminate a trail of centuries-old human migration that resonates with their own immigrant journeys.  ZaZa is a French-Israeli singer-guitarist, who was born in Paris and raised in Tel Aviv and a village neighboring Gaza.  Hermida, who was born into a musical family in Buenos Aires, has lived and worked in New York for over 25 years.

This wandering caravan -- delivered in voice (Flamenca) twin guitars (Flamenca and Hermida), clarinet/saxophone (Ben Golder-Novick), plus bass and oud -- performs songs in Russian, Yiddish, Turkish, Greek, Ladino, Hebrew and the particularly exotic hybrid of Flamenco fusing Romani and Spanish.

7) Nut/Cracked

Choreographer David Parker draws inspiration from across the dance spectrum, blending tap, ballet, disco, and even bubble wrap to create a unique performance that reimagines Tchaikovsky’s iconic score. With renditions ranging from Duke Ellington to Glenn MillerNut/Cracked transforms the familiar into something delightfully unexpected.

8) Picnic at Hanging Rock

First brought to global recognition through Peter Weir's iconic film, this musical adaptation powerfully reimagines the story through a female lens. On Valentine’s Day in 1900, a group of teenage schoolgirls go on a picnic to the foreboding Hanging Rock. Three vanish without a trace. A tale that came to author Joan Lindsay in a dream, PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK unfolds against a backdrop of Australia’s wild natural beauty, exploring the fates of spirited young women determined to navigate the constraints of their futures. In giving voice to those who have been kept silent, it also brings a compelling First Nations perspective to light. Prepare to be captivated by a haunting exploration of innocence, mystery, and the unseen forces shaping our destinies.

13) Beetlejuice

Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, BEETLEJUICE tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. With an irreverent book, an astonishing set, and a score that’s out of this Netherworld, BEETLEJUICE is “A FEAST FOR THE EYES AND SOUL!” (Entertainment Weekly), and under its uproarious surface (six feet under, to be exact), it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love, and making the most of every Day-O!

14) Messy White Gays

In Messy White Gays, Drew Droege—the sharp-penned and quick-witted diarist of the contemporary homosexual—shines a harsh overhead light on the pores of White Gaydom, revealing what happens when throuples crumble, neighbors bicker, and rich and pretty clash with hot and dumb. It’s Sunday morning in Hell’s Kitchen. Brecken and Caden have just murdered their boyfriend and stuffed his body into a Jonathan Adler credenza. Unfortunately, they’ve also invited friends over for brunch. And they’re out of limes! Feel bad for them! They’re MESSY WHITE GAYS!

Inspired by the true stories of erotic fiction writers of the 1960's and using Supreme Court-inspired transcripts, Dirty Books reveals the ingenuity and resilience of artists who thrived in the shadows of America's anti-obscenity laws working in the soft-core adult publishing industry. Inside an intimate world of secret bookstores, banned novels, and underground desire, the audience collaborates with the company to compose an erotic story.

17) Operation Mincemeat

In Operation Mincemeat, it’s 1943, and the Allied Forces are on the ropes. Luckily, they’ve got a trick up their sleeve. Well, not up their sleeve, per se, but rather inside the pocket of a stolen corpse. Equal parts farce, thriller, and Ian Fleming-style spy caper (with an assist from Mr. Fleming himself), Operation Mincemeat tells the wildly improbable and hilarious true story of the covert operation that turned the tide of WWII.
