Do Re Mi is a fairly cliched show. Its basic plot involves a man coming up with a get-rich-quick scheme that causes him to deal with unsavory types and thus run afoul of the law. J2 Spotlight Musical Theater Company's current production raises the show to another level making it feel fresh, new, and exciting.
This is mainly due to the exuberant cast who really make the songs and dialogue pop. Ian Lowe in the lead role of Hubie Cram channels Stephen Toblowsky at his nebbishy best. Rebecca Spigelman as his loyal wife, Kay, is a force to reckon with, she elevates the role of the long-suffering wife into something special. The rest of the cast does a fine job in their roles but special mention must be made of Richard Rowan who is hilarious in a variety of roles including several of them in the same scene.
The songs are fun but mostly unmemorable except for the standard, Make Me Happy, which originated in this show. On the whole, however, this production is a delight that you won't want to miss!
